Announcing Events for Ning 3.0

We’ve heard your feedback over the years, and Events has consistently been one of, if not the, most-requested feature for 3.0. So today, we’re pleased to announce the long-awaited release of Events for Ning 3.0.

Events are an important component of a successful community, as they allow members to come together, whether virtually or online, at a designated time and place. As we rebuilt Events, we’ve kept the good parts from Events on 2.0 and added some improvements to make it even more powerful.

Semi-Private Events

In addition to Public and Private events, we’ve added a new privacy option: Semi-private. While Private events will be hidden from people who aren’t invited, Semi-private events will still appear in the list of upcoming events. However, only the event date, picture, and title will be visible. People who aren’t already invited to your Semi-private event will need to request an invitation to view the event details and RSVP.

Updated RSVP Options & Google Calendar

RSVP options now include a Going, Might go, and Not going responses, whose wording can be changed in the Language Editor. You can now RSVP directly from the Events page, in addition to the event details page, using the “Are you going?” drop down menu.

Once you’ve RSVP’d, you can easily add the event to your Google Calendar, using the Google Calendar button found under the RSVP drop down menu on each event.

Search

While network-wide Search is still in the works, we’ve added a search field to Events. Search through all events or through a specific date range using the “Date range” drop down menu next to the search field.

This is only the first of many more features to come, so please check back here again soon for more announcements in the coming weeks and months!

  • Awesome!

  • Hello Support!
Does not Work the Part 2 for Me .i can not  invite Members.

    • Hi J.Ayvar, that text is not clickable. It is just informing you of the next stage when adding an event. If you complete all the event details and then click the Publish button and then next page will open for inviting members.

      Hope that helped, John :-)

      • Hi John! thanks for Reply:)

I did the first part and publish the first event in my site but  never appears the next stage:

the events Guide  inform us  that  once you create a event on the next stage appears something like this:

But  i did not see this part until now.so, i could  not invite members, only if i click on Google calendar i can send invitation but this is only for my gmail contacts .

        Thanks!

        • Hi there,

Could you please provide us with the name of your network, as we have tested the events feature under the network which is connected to your email address in our database, and as we can see after the event has been published the invite form has appeared on the screen. So if you don't mind please confirm the name of the network.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

          Best regards,

          Ning team.

          •

Now, it is possible to invite members!

it was marked the option: Disable RSVP that's why i could not invite members :)

            Thank you!

            Thank you!

  • Very nice as had a good play around with this new feature and added some of my own styling to them. One thing I have noticed though is that if you add a module using the add content it will show ALL events not just the ones from this day onwards ie upcoming events. This I noticed especially while adding events from a category. What would be a nice option when using the add content is have a checkbox that you could tick to only show upcoming events from these modules if  you so wish to do that.

Here is an example from adding a module using add content and choosing events from a category. Notice it shows all the events from past and upcoming. So if we had a checkbox option we could choose whether to display past events or not as well.

Other than that it works great so far.

Example of the add content module showing all events past and present

    • Hi John,

      Thanks for your feedback.

That seems to be a nice idea to make the events module working the way you have described it, and we have already passed this feedback to the management.

      Thanks,

      Ning Team.
