CAPTCHA - NO BOTS AND SPAMMY CONTENT

As of now you can easily prevent spammy and bots’ massages on your networks using CAPTCHA option.

It is available both for Ning 2.0 and Ning 3.0 platforms.

You can enable CAPTCHA in General Settings of your Network. Simply go to Social Site Manager section, if you are on Ning 3.0 or to Settings Network Details if you are on Ning 2.0 .

You can read more detailed info in our Help Center for both platforms here:
https://www.ning.com/help/captcha-no-bots-spammy-content/
https://www.ning.com/ning3h…/captcha-no-bots-spammy-content/

We use latest version of reCaptcha form Google which uses an advanced risk analysis engine and adaptive CAPTCHAs to keep automated software from engaging in abusive activities on your network. It does this while letting your valid users pass through with ease. Read more about Google CAPTCHA here - https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html…

Please note:
Even if you disable it, your new member will see CAPTCHA once when they're on registration page.

      • Are you saying that there is a link also in 2.0 that I cannot see?

Back in July 2015 the http://rhettandlinkommunity.com/ website was turned over by it's creator (Link Neal) to the current admin and moderator group, intending it to be from that time forward a 100% fan-based and fan-run site. I manage all day-to-day operations and moderators monitor all membership and content.

What do you need from Link Neal to document and complete this transfer, so that I or another can be substituted as NETWORK CREATOR?

I can certainly supply you with some e-mail correspondence referencing the transfer of operations, but transferring ownership of the Ning site is perhaps another larger issue. Here is the announcement made to site members at the time:  http://rhettandlinkommunity.com/profiles/blogs/kommunity-announceme...

  • How can you do new stuff, when you can't even fix old errors? My website, today gives all day Our apologies and 500 error, search does not work for days... I feel that we are in a time of war and all is lost. I've lost many users of these problems.

  • Has this update affected networks?

Can you please check landscapejuicenetwork.com as it's been down for a while now.

    Many thanks
    • Hi Philip,

We have replied to you in private message, as the reply contain some personal information.

      Regards,

      Ning Team.

      • Sorry for the slow reply.

Just to say that the problem with my network wasn't caused by the Ning system at all. It was a DNA issue at GoDaddy and as I was traveling I didn't realise and was unable to do anything about it.

As Kyryl says above, I was contacted privately with advice on what was wrong and help with the solution.

        Thanks Kyryl, great personal service:)

  • Hi Guys. Sorry to disappoint you but I have the CAPTCHA enabled and keep changing the quiz question and at certain times get hit with dozens of spammy join ups. Have a look at my network.

    • Hi there,

Unfortunately, the CAPTCHA could prevent sign ups from bots only, that is making the life spammer more difficult but anyway manually they will be able to pass through it.

Meanwhile, we have checked the list of banned members on your network and as we can see lately they have been using the temporary email domains like @yopmail.com or @forward.cat. As you may know in the Sign-in/Sign-up tab you can restrict several email domains. We can suggest you put there at least those two as the restricted ones, however, here is the list of most popular temporary email domains https://gist.github.com/adamloving/4401361

      Apologies for the inconveniences.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • Hi. I added the @yopmail.com   address this morning, and this afternoon I still had a few get through that filter to register. I have had to turn on the 'approval' setting today due to the influx of spammers.

Can you explain how they still got through, even though that domain is restricted in my controls?

You can check my site and see

        • Hi there,

It looks like the limitation of @yopmail.com has been set after those people have signed up on your network.

I have just tried to sing up by using the email from @yopmail.com and the and received the message that the email is invalid and I should use another one.

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.
