                • Thanks, Suki, I think they transferred my site to 3 :(

                  • If you are not sure Roxanne, put a link here and maybe some of us can figure out if you're in fact on nng 2.0 or 3.0.

                    • Me either. sorry

                    • I got 500 error message too. I tried 5 times to go onto the site and was never able to connect.

                    • Thanks, Suki. All i get is a 500 error...

            • I have all of my content on SocialEngine PHP but it is offline.  I have member profiles and member info on Spruz.  Neither one of these have everything I want.  SE is way too much work and maintenance and Spruz is missing some widgets I need.  But then.....NING is absolutely no good to me if it cost a bundle and is down every other day.

              • Hey Donna, i think your last sentence says it all.  We look for something 'as good as ning'- but ning is no longer good anyway if its notworking.

Its like the old business saying : If you want something cheap, good, and fast...well pick two out of three.  lol

I think if a creator isnt determined about saving there ning2 content, then they should just startover on some place like FB or Wix or Spruz, or a simple php forum etc and be done with it.  The maintenance is way less on those sites that you do not migrate your ning content to or own the platform and build//customize/control your site yourself.   Facebook- you dont have to do anything!- just start new and invite your members.

But if you DO wnat to migrate most of your ning content and really own your own site, then yes it is more work to run a site andbuild and maintain it. There are a handful of platforms that migrate in your content but your site is never going to be customized for you. even on ning we had to customize a lot of stuff andspend time making our site what we want it to be like, and running it. (sooo many custom codes posted on this forum!)   You can get hosted or rent a server so you dont have to know how to maintain a server, but if you OWN your site (not like on ning) you def will have to spend time customizing and maintaining it (unless you have moeny to hire someone else to do that for you- lol).

So the two choice really as i see it:

                1) leave your content behind and start over from zero on an easy site cheap like FB or Spruz Wix etc.- just invite yur members and do it!.  or 2) put in some time to migrate your content to a new platfrm that will pull it in from your ning archive- but you will have to learn how to customize and run a site yourself-  a siteyou really OWN and then you will never be at mercy of a corporation again. That takes some work and time, but you can pull yuor content, get off ning and maybe work on fine tuning your new site littleby little as you learn how. just my two cents.  :)

                • I totally agree.  The work I did with SE PHP was labor intensive and a learning experience that I didn't want to learn.  And the updates on all the extra widgets was ridiculous.  I hated every minute of it truth be told.  I like Spruz a lot.  It just needs a few other widgets and I really liked it better that all the content did not migrate over.  I archived all the content and when I look at what I have archived, it seems so unimportant in the whole scheme of things.  Jamroom is supposed to work great BUT people are going nuts learning it.  No thanks....I don't get paid to run my little social network....I don't want to learn ANYTHING.  LOL

                  • I would like to be able to learn PHP.. I can't afford to take classes to learn it. What would be a good way to familiarize myself with it? I hate to pester you and ask, but I am having a really hard time finding any help with it. I had no problem learning CSS, CSS5, HTML, XHTML, and even Javascripting with no help in doing so, but I am just lost with PHP.

                    • Thank you Fire-Tech! I don't understand why I didn't Pick it up like I did everything else. This should help.
