Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Today we're pleased to release a set of improvements to the Activity Feed feature on Ning 3.0 networks.

The updated Activity Feed allows members to view older items in the feed, and to view new items that have appeared since they loaded the page.

We've expanded the capabilities of Social Feeds so that you can have items automatically added to the Activity Feed via RSS and Twitter.

We've added a status feature, so that your members can leave status updates in the feed, and we've added link parsing for status updates, so that if a member adds a link, for example, to YouTube, the video is embedded and playable directly in the feed. Link parsing and embedding works with a wide variety of sites, including: YouTube, Dailymotion, Vine, Flickr video, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. We'll also provide a preview of content for any link to a site that supports the OpenGraph standard.

With this release, members can also comment on status updates and individual photos directly in the feed.

In order to see and activate the new options that are available for the Activity Feed, head to the Activity Feed Settings page in the Social Site Manager.

  • OK - can I please ask if anyone is having the same issue, because my feed is still playing up.

    To recap:

    • Prior to the update, I had activities from the forums in my groups showing up on the activity feed. So whenever somebody posted a new discussion, or commented on a discussion it showed up. However you only saw it if you were a member of that group. Perfect :)
    • Since the update, nothing from the forum discussions in the groups is showing up. So I can no longer see that there are new discussions or comments without physically going into each group. (or subscribing to get emails from every single group and discussion, which is ridiculous).
    • In my settings, I have not selected things like 'show new friendships' or 'show profile updates'. However all these things are showing up in the feed. So the opposite of what I've selected.

I have tried removing the feed and reinstalling it. I've opened a ticket, and they told me there had been issues and so the feed had been disabled. But it seems most other people have perfectly functioning feeds by now???

My members are getting grumpy, and I'm getting frustrated and confused.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Has anyone got forum discussions and comments from groups showing?

    Thanks so much!

    Nat.

    • yes same Nat! Annoying!

  • Hi friends!

I saw some people in this discussion mention a problem with their Latest Activity MORE button on their N3 sites.  I have seen the same issue on several sites.  On these sites, I see a Ning javascript error which may or may not be involved with this problem.  If you have this problem, I invite you to read a discussion I started, and see if you have this javascript error if your More button is broken: https://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/more-button-not-working-on-so...

    Thanks and Best Wishes!

  • Mine is working great.  I'm glad that they have finally gotten the activity feed upgraded.  It seems to me that next they will be working on Profile Page options.  Lets hope it doesn't take a whole 4-5 months for them to get more upgrades done up.  So far I'm happy with the new activity feed settings.  Amazing.

  • I liked this feature of ning 2.0

  • Well I for one am thanking the heavens for this update! Activity on my site has skyrocketed since I implemented it and I have had more new members join in a couple of days than in the last month! Sure there are a couple of features I would have liked such as @ mentions and hashtags but I am happy to wait for these.

    On the meantime, thanks NING!

    • Well that sounds good Simon.   :)

      • Thanks Stumelia, after weeks of frustration and getting ready to kick it all in NING wise I am happy to finally see things improve! :)

        • It is indeed terribly frustrating.  This single update (on a feature that they had already built) took over four months- WAY too long.  All the while Ning says almost nothing...a stone wall turned to its customers.

Now we need them to update their roadmap and TELL us what they are going to work on next.  It is like squeezing blood out of a stone to be told what's going on and what to expect for OUR networks.

But it's definitely good that at least Ning kept their ONE promise- to release an activity feed update in July. That is a good thing.

Now hopefully Ning will quickly sort out the glitches some people seem to be having with this new update, and then UPDATE THEIR ROAD MAP, FER CRYIN' OUT LOUD.
