Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Today we're pleased to release a set of improvements to the Activity Feed feature on Ning 3.0 networks.

The updated Activity Feed allows members to view older items in the feed, and to view new items that have appeared since they loaded the page.

We've expanded the capabilities of Social Feeds so that you can have items automatically added to the Activity Feed via RSS and Twitter.

We've added a status feature, so that your members can leave status updates in the feed, and we've added link parsing for status updates, so that if a member adds a link, for example, to YouTube, the video is embedded and playable directly in the feed. Link parsing and embedding works with a wide variety of sites, including: YouTube, Dailymotion, Vine, Flickr video, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. We'll also provide a preview of content for any link to a site that supports the OpenGraph standard.

With this release, members can also comment on status updates and individual photos directly in the feed.

In order to see and activate the new options that are available for the Activity Feed, head to the Activity Feed Settings page in the Social Site Manager.

                    • Exactly my 3.0 was not completed as they led me to believe and even with the activity feed this doesn't take care of the Groups which are active. So I was glad to have my 2.0 back.

                    • Correct.  If you are live in your 3.0 and want to revert back to your 2.0, the agreement is that you give up your 3.0 until a later date.  Scrap it. I was fine with it as well.  Membership and participation was dying on 3.0.  Back on 2.0 - no problems now.

                    • I no longer can log into it that was one of the requirements of having my 2. 0 back. Whatever it was fine with me. See below, there is no maintenance just locked out per Crystal months ago.

                    • Huh?  What do you mean they have locked you out of your 3.0?

                    • I already have done this months ago but now that I have my 2.0 back they have locked me out of my 3.0 till phase 2 which could be next year. Honestly and sorry to say I am looking at alternatives at this point and would have already jumped the ship if Nings archiving wasn't such a mess.

            • If no activity shows up from Groups then they should implement a way to be notified that a comment has been placed in a group via notifications. Yet they specified this would not be the case and a member needs to come in to a group to follow or we may follow a discussion that no one will see or know of and we can't share unless we are friends with everyone so that is futile.  The testing I had done previously no one received any notifications of comments on the wall so unless someone "checks in daily" to ALL the groups they belong to or they will never know a comment is left. I am Admin on a group and I haven't received any notifications yet when I check in I see comments on the wall and I follow the group. So how does that work? The lucky thing is though if a spammer get in and posts no one will see it lol.

It feels like we are cut off from our own members.

              • That is exactly my point Skye. While discussions posted in Groups appear in latest Activity, all Comments posted on Group walls appear NOWHERE, and who is going to check every group on their site morning noon and night to prevent Spam or porn or pictures of people's hoohahs....I think that it is far beyond a silly inconvenience that only irritates me; what it actually amounts to in practice is a perfect storm for illegal and regular breach of Terms and Conditions which might lead to termination of Contracts due to no fault of the Network Creators. I am glad someone else can see my point of view :) Thank you.

                • Now remember they did not have a comment wall until we lambasted them with requests for the necessity of it so it makes sense that the comment wall doesn't show up either in notifications within the group or on the activity feed. They have added it for us but did not take the time to tie it together so to speak, it is a secondary function that we can opt in for or out of.
If we opt in to have it then it should automatically notify us of comments but they simple pacified us with the wall and went no further.

I think it might be better to have a discussion wall with in a discussion and no comment wall so the group can at least be notified, I already had my brain thinking about this knowing this No notification business on the comment wall was silly.

                  • I have been thinking of this too Skye, although my limited experience has made me slower to find a solution. i have been thinking my only option is to disable Comment walls. i made the remark to john (Bizley) earlier that this whole situation made me wonder if Comment Walls were an undeveloped and un-integrated feature in the first place, as this is why they are sticking out like sore thumbs now. I might get back to you to ask you to further clarify your thinking on this for my benefit.
