Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Today we're pleased to release a set of improvements to the Activity Feed feature on Ning 3.0 networks.

The updated Activity Feed allows members to view older items in the feed, and to view new items that have appeared since they loaded the page.

We've expanded the capabilities of Social Feeds so that you can have items automatically added to the Activity Feed via RSS and Twitter.

We've added a status feature, so that your members can leave status updates in the feed, and we've added link parsing for status updates, so that if a member adds a link, for example, to YouTube, the video is embedded and playable directly in the feed. Link parsing and embedding works with a wide variety of sites, including: YouTube, Dailymotion, Vine, Flickr video, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. We'll also provide a preview of content for any link to a site that supports the OpenGraph standard.

With this release, members can also comment on status updates and individual photos directly in the feed.

In order to see and activate the new options that are available for the Activity Feed, head to the Activity Feed Settings page in the Social Site Manager.

    • Just filed a ticket too.

    • I filed a ticket as soon as I migrated about activity feed as I'm on ultimate plan and am not happy about paying for something that ins't working as expected - the reply I recieved

"Thanks for getting in touch about these issues. They are known issues with the Activity feed which we're currently working on a fix for. Unfortunately, I don't have a specific time frame for when they will be fixed. Bugs are issued a priority based on the severity of the issue, the number of affected networks, the complexity of the issue, engineering resources available and if there are any workarounds until there is a fix. This ticket will be marked "Pending" while our engineers work on this issue. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime. Thanks for your patience!"

      • Ning says the work on "glitches" according to priority taking # of tickets and number of sites affected into account so I'm glad you filed a ticket.  File another and another if (when) you come across other problems.

  • My activity feeds is only showing 2 item for the past 48 hrs www.thisisbully.com
  • A Couple of other points re Activity Feed.

I have chosen ''Detail'' as opposed to ''Title'' in feed settings because Title does not actually render the title of a new discussion posted. It only says ''ABC has posted a discussion to XYZ'' ...No Title of Discussion, so it could be on my cat's sleeping habits and no one would know. But anyways, this throws up another issue, bigger issue, and that is re PRIVACY

If one has set a specific Group to Private, any post there still shows up in Activity Feed for members and non-members alike. Because of the ''Details'' setting, the first 100 characters of what is supposed ot be a private post shows up in Activity Feed for members and Non-members alike to view. Thjis makes the function of privacy defunct. If, for example, admins and NC have a Council group for site business, the first line of any comments in the Council thread appear on the Activity Feed. (Unless of course you do your Council Admin business on the Council Group Wall, in which case it shows up for blooming no-one and is effectively invisible unless checked.

I made a completely Private page today for my set to check/Test these settings. Fair enough the page is not visible in the Top Bar to non-members, (as one would expect) but Lo and Behold!, post on that ''Private'' page and the activity goes to latest Activity Feed and is visible to members and non-members alike.

Members themselves also have very minimal privacy settings themselves. They can make their page own page invisible to non-members or Friends only, which means Comments on their profile page do not go to Activity Feed (yep, even invisible to their friends) but they cannot choose to have comments they make or posts they make of any sort not show up on Activity Feed. (as they can on Ning 2).

Couple this with the lack of email notification of comments on posts and welll...I don't even know where to start.

Is there something I am missing in my set up here? I can choose to make the whole site invisible (private), whole of forums invisible (private), but cannot make specific Groups invisible (private) (i.e. that activity there does not go to Publicly viewed Activity Feed) or specific discussions within Forums invisible (private)....

    • Just to clarify.

And I would like to ask Ning 2 users if they are happy enough with this being so on the Ning 3 activity feed.

You can pick ''Titles'' or ''Details'' to show in your activity feed on Ning 3.

If you pick ''Details'' then even Private discussions will show up on the publicly viewable activity feed, with as many characters as you have set for details being visible to everyone, members and non-members alike.

But if you pick ''Titles'' in an effort to maintain some degree of privacy, then this is what shows up in the Activity Feed

      3237695?profile=original

In other words, there are NO titles, just a generic feed.

Does this suit everyone else? including those of you who will have to migrate to Ning 3 at some point?

    • I hear you on the group comments and privacy settings - looks like my community is a ghost town with so little activity happening where as it's happening it just isn't showing up :(

  • playing up again for me, still not right this thing, im having new items come on the feed, you refresh and knock about the site for a bit and its still there, so you go off and post or something else and its gone again, then its back, then its gone again...

    yoyo... :))

  • By All that is good and holy!!! A ''New Items'' button has appeared and whats more...it works splendidly!! Well done Ningsters!!. (Give me my comments on Group Walls now ;p and i will be your faithful servant foreverrrrrrrrr. :D )

    Thumbs Up.

    • Yep. Working good for me too.
