Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Today we're pleased to release a set of improvements to the Activity Feed feature on Ning 3.0 networks.

The updated Activity Feed allows members to view older items in the feed, and to view new items that have appeared since they loaded the page.

We've expanded the capabilities of Social Feeds so that you can have items automatically added to the Activity Feed via RSS and Twitter.

We've added a status feature, so that your members can leave status updates in the feed, and we've added link parsing for status updates, so that if a member adds a link, for example, to YouTube, the video is embedded and playable directly in the feed. Link parsing and embedding works with a wide variety of sites, including: YouTube, Dailymotion, Vine, Flickr video, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. We'll also provide a preview of content for any link to a site that supports the OpenGraph standard.

With this release, members can also comment on status updates and individual photos directly in the feed.

In order to see and activate the new options that are available for the Activity Feed, head to the Activity Feed Settings page in the Social Site Manager.

  • Hello?

    Ning team ???

It's been SIX MONTHS since any further updates to your Product Roadmap.  And not a peep from you to us longtime paying customers.  Your long loyal customers are leaving Ning in disgust, one after another.

    What are you doing?

Where are our long awaited 3.0 features???????????

    Talk   to   us.

      • Now that would be pretty ironic, wouldn't it?, if **I** were one of the last longtime members hanging around here being hopeful, long after the old 3.0 cheerleader gang had gotten frustrated and left, one by one.  I sometimes think back on the parade of 'lost faces' in here when I post. So many Ning customers gone who used to be so active and positive here.  Kinda sad really.  I've always doubted 3.0 and dreaded Ning's (Glam's) 're-imagining', yet I've always been positive and happy about my 2.0 network, which I continue to adore each and every day.  It works so well for all my needs, and I know how to modify it and tweak it- i've always found the admin controls to be intuitive and flexible without my having to 'code' stuff.   :)

As long as my 2.0 is working well and being fixed/maintained by Ning support, I am happy to keep it going for several more years (as I've said all along, ever since 3.0 was announced with a huge fanfare).  My thousands of members do love my 2.0 dearly, and they dont seem to mind its old fashioned aspects at all...they continue to rave about it daily- go figure!   :)

I just managed to do a full archive/backup of my 2.0 network this past week.  Took two days to download all the media files from all the features..yikes.  But I realize now I need to do this every month or so, just in case the sky falls suddenly and Ning/Glam pulls the plug on us all with little warning...it could happen, right?  At least I'd have a not-too-old copy of all my content that I could theoretically bring into SEphp using their Ning migration import tool.  Bless them for having that!- just knowing it's there helps me sleep at night.

        • Right on. I don't care 'how' many pro 3'rs pretend that the Emperor dons new clothes... dude is naked as a jaybird. 3.0 is an illusion. 2.0 will always be all that. I'm very proud of mine and even like what 3.0 could'a would'a been before it's ignominious abandonment. You won't be alone Strumelia. I'm down for the count. Bored as all get out but here.
        • I still wish a long life to ning 2.0
But I also like to ning 3.0 to succeed
          Why not keep both ?!

          • As the internet evolves and responsive websites become the norm, it's just not feasible from a business (expense) standpoint to spend money updating and maintaining 2.0 and run 3.0 at the same time.  Out with the old; in with the new.  Just as Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP, now they will phase out support of Windows 7.

              • yeah its all to do with how people use the net now. its all mobile devices mostly. Im seen as a dinosaur  because i use the PC, my idea of being mobile is a laptop :))

One inconsistency with Ning 3.0 though is that its rubbish with apple devices when posting or adding content Which does concern me as most people i know have ipads and iphones. The philosophy with Ning seem to be aiming for the big fish, the big social leaders as they like to call them, where the money is.. I bet you any money that most people favour the apple devices in this social spectrum so ning had better see this inconsistency as rather important and fix it soon. They need to move away from this text editor which i guess must be flash based to something more apple friendly. That in itself is rather a major mistake to make in the Mobile design of this new Ning concept.

        • For now I'm still here with you Strumelia :]

I've gone from over 200 Ning Networks (used to spend 1000s a year to Ning and was happy doing it) to 2 and am now in the process of moving one of these to SocialEngine - it's not as powerful or feature rich as Ning but it's active and for this network (mostly about sharing info) will work. It's been a sad process.

          • So much delusion in relation to 3.0. It's quite hilarious. Anyway, long live 2.0 and may 3.0 find a compassionate developer|resurrection. Good to see you Pat and best wishes in whatever you do.
    • Hahahahahaha Hellooooooooo . Nobody here.....
