Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Today we're pleased to release a set of improvements to the Activity Feed feature on Ning 3.0 networks.

The updated Activity Feed allows members to view older items in the feed, and to view new items that have appeared since they loaded the page.

We've expanded the capabilities of Social Feeds so that you can have items automatically added to the Activity Feed via RSS and Twitter.

We've added a status feature, so that your members can leave status updates in the feed, and we've added link parsing for status updates, so that if a member adds a link, for example, to YouTube, the video is embedded and playable directly in the feed. Link parsing and embedding works with a wide variety of sites, including: YouTube, Dailymotion, Vine, Flickr video, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. We'll also provide a preview of content for any link to a site that supports the OpenGraph standard.

With this release, members can also comment on status updates and individual photos directly in the feed.

In order to see and activate the new options that are available for the Activity Feed, head to the Activity Feed Settings page in the Social Site Manager.

Almost there. This post was posted at 2:12 but yes we are close to bringing out the cake. :-)

  • There have been some changes in recent days. Number 1, admins and Network Creators are now getting some email notifications about responses to their posts, and continued replies on posts they have commented on. This was not happening up till now. Number 2, i notice in Google analytics that pages seem to look different. They are no longer given their Title in content but get a weird number/alphabet combination which makes me think that they are being filed differently in some way. Maybe for an archiver?? That would be nice :)

  • Ning still works, at least.  If you have a Ning 3 or a custom Ning 2 it is not that bad, IMO.  It would be nice to get information from Ning about the future. Is the Ning or Glam Media Management just waiting for everyone to leave?  Or will they maintain the current static solution for the next 3 to 5 years? Is Ning being fixed a bit in the background?

    • I'm very grateful for the fact that it still works. No complaints whatsoever... Best platform going!
  • Missing 4 days for the one-year anniversary of neglect Ning to the creators!

  • Goodbye to all my Ning friends and thanks for all the help the community has done but not from Ning themselves. This company is just plain terrible now and if you are still with Ning good luck to you all. They have no support or updates to provide us and to be honest there is nothing left to support or update us on because this product Zac stated is all outdate. The Ning 2.0 is so 1995 and Ning 3.0 is plain terrible as well and it does not even look like a social network anymore. I would recommend using other platforms to continue your site. There are other options available so just google it. Ning was cool when the founder started it but since Glam and Mode took over its garbage now. Anyway, thank you all friends for all your help and good luck to you.

    • Julian, best of luck to you with your new networks!

You expressed the problem well.  I loved Ning more than anything back in the day!  :)   That seems like a hundred years ago now though.

A dishonorable ending to a great platform and era.  To be used for parts and then purposely allowed to die a slow death, with total disregard for its thousands of hostag-...oops i mean customers.  No amount of code workarounds or 3rd party apps can keep it relevant and vibrant anymore.  More important- one cannot have any confidence at all that it will even be around two months or a year from now.

I'm now live on my wonderful new Jamroom network, couldn't be happier with it, and will be leaving here shortly as well.

      Best wishes!   :)
