Current status of the Ning Platform is always available on the Ning Status Blog.

Today we're pleased to release a set of improvements to the Activity Feed feature on Ning 3.0 networks.

The updated Activity Feed allows members to view older items in the feed, and to view new items that have appeared since they loaded the page.

We've expanded the capabilities of Social Feeds so that you can have items automatically added to the Activity Feed via RSS and Twitter.

We've added a status feature, so that your members can leave status updates in the feed, and we've added link parsing for status updates, so that if a member adds a link, for example, to YouTube, the video is embedded and playable directly in the feed. Link parsing and embedding works with a wide variety of sites, including: YouTube, Dailymotion, Vine, Flickr video, Twitter, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. We'll also provide a preview of content for any link to a site that supports the OpenGraph standard.

With this release, members can also comment on status updates and individual photos directly in the feed.

In order to see and activate the new options that are available for the Activity Feed, head to the Activity Feed Settings page in the Social Site Manager.

  • Guys, stop all this nonsense. I been a members for years and years and about to leave now. Ning is garbage now to me. They are going out of business soon im pretty positive. No news or nothing posted by them in months now. Support is dead, the only thing running is their billing system to deduct $60 out of your account monthly. This is going no where folks sorry to say. Peace out!

    • Julian where are you off to instead?  Just curious...do you have a new site?

After 6 years of paying $60/month, I too am leaving as soon as my current month expires.  Ning has for all intents and purposes been abandoned.  Here's my OLD Ning site:http://mountaindulcimer.ning.com/  and here is my brand NEW Jamroom site, with all my ning content and members imported into it, live and kicking now!:  http://fotmd.com/

Love it to pieces! (peaces?)  lol...    :D

      • GREAT site, good job and good luck.

      • I am going to be using either this jamroom, jomsocial, socialgo, oxwall or moosocial...not sure yet. I have 56,000 people but i am not migrating it over just gonna start fresh again. All my members are not as active anyway i dont think it makes sense to pay alot of money to migrate it over. Your site looks great. It is ashame that Ning is doing all this or that new company is. Ning was no. 1 now I am sure its fallen everyday.

        • What would you do if you had full control over one of your biggest competitor? Some might opt for killing the competition but a wiser choice may be to maintain the competition but do so in a way that makes it less appealing to your target audience. I think that’s exactly what Mode Media is doing with Ning at the moment.

Like from the Godfather... "Keep your friends close...but your enemies closer."   lolol

  • I know it's been a while, but is there any chance we could have more than one facebook entry under Social Feeds? This works so well to have my FB information automatically download into my ning network. A great way to create groups when participants are not exactly sold on the Ning platform we created.

    • Jon, I'm afraid we might all be just talking to ourselves here.

          • You got that exactly right Zachary. Give us our freedom and independence :) Everything else is salad dressing.

            • Do you suspect there is someone in billing who may get squirm when I cancel my monthly subscription? Obviously their servers are still operational and their bank account. My community isn't exactly in the hundreds of thousands of people. We may switch over to a half FB/half static site for content. Does anyone want to talk me out of this?

              • Are you talking about a Facebook group / static website mix  or using a Facebook Page. I personally don't like a Page because I can only reach a fraction of my audience.
