Ning 2Q 2017 plan!

Most of you have asked us about Product plan for the nearest future. And here it is!

For the last couple of months we’ve been listening to you very carefully, gathering and analyzing all your feedbacks to make Ning platform a better place for you and your members.

So here is the list of functions we are going to release in Q2.

1) Making Ning 3.0 as functional as Ning 2.0:
- Paid Access. Probably the most expected feature that will be much better and way more functional than the previous version.
- Chats. Basically, they are live now, but in Q2 this option will be upgraded to the next level.
- Audio. The basic feature with basic performance.

2) Completely new features:
- Polls. You will be able to ask different questions, receive immediate feedback from your customers and make research you need in order to evolve your platform.
- Member ranking system. To encourage, motivate and engage your members, as well as develop your community.

3) Some upgrades are coming for both platforms:
- Disk usage is going to be visible for all creators to manage your space and resources.
- Broadcast messages will become more functional, with a bunch of new settings for you and your members.

4) Our brand new redesigns are also coming to push Ning to a new era not only functionally, but visually as well:
- Ning.com redesign is live now and you can check it out on https://www.ning.com/
- Creators.ning.com and Ning corporate blog will try out new outfits this quarter too.

5) New migration script. Those who would like to migrate from Ning 2.0 to Ning 3.0 to use more benefits would be able to do that easily.

6) System monitoring. 99,9% of uptime monitoring is now done, which gives us the opportunity to keep everything under control, and provide you with better and better service.

7) Hardware renovation plan, that our tech team is currently working on, is going to be ready by the end of Q2.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jenn.  I love the improvements aside from removing the Approved Solutions Providers.  Please add that back along with https:// capabilities.  Looking forward to everything listed!  Thank you

  • Thanks for update.

What about the back up thing...I forget what it's called...where you can back up your site. We don't have it on 3. It's pretty important.

    Good luck with your endeavours.

    • Important is right, Anam.  For folks who depend on their online sites, it's absolutely essential to have a way to export/archive/backup one's own site content.

Ning is a third party platform where we rent the use of their platform (without owning it) and we rent space on their servers ..where all our content resides, under their possession and control.  This means of course that we do not have access to our content on their servers, that's understood.  But not having server access makes it all the more critical to be able to backup, download, and archive our content.  IMHO not being able to backup or download our site content means we don't actually 'own' or fully control our content, despite Ning's advertising "Your, members, your content, your control".

Ning must repair the currently half-broken 2.0 Ning Archive Tool, and they must create an archive/backup Tool for 3.0... if we are to actually have control and ownership over 'our' content on Ning.

    • Hi there,

I haven't seen such feature in the plan so I've informed the management about your willing by creating the suggestion to add such feature, when I'll see their decision I'll contact you back regarding this case.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • Thanks, it was a big deal for a lot of people a while ago, it still is for me as the possibility of all site content being suddenly lost is there if there is never any back up facility.  I think it's called ''Archive''...being able to create a backup file of all site content. It is on Ning 2 but not Ning 3 (as far as I know). https://www.ning.com/help/archive-your-ning-networks-content-2/

        • Yes that's correct it was the archive feature. Currently we have no way of getting our content from our networks - even the current network archiver on 2.0 the JSON files created are missing data and aren't that good.

In the T&C's it states that all network data is our own but we don't have any way to export it / archive it where as you do on 2.0 networks. Let's see this feature added back to the roadmap please

  • This is great thanks - appreciate keeping us up to date and it's great to see improvements especially in system stability as well as feature updates - to recap on your QTR1 plans from Bryce https://creators.ning.com/announcements-from-ning/a-message-from-our...

As we start a new year, we’re shifting our focus to features, functionality, and customer transparency.  Below is a list of some (but by no means all) of our Ning 3.0, Q1 objectives for 2017:

    • Add Features: Events, Search, Chat, and Paid Access - Events / (basic chat) acheived - we need SEARCH ASAP ITS DISAPPEARED!!!!!!
    • Restart 2.0 to 3.0 migrations - pushed back to Q2 but looks like you're improving the process
    • Establish a new NC Council to participate in the creation of a new Product Roadmap - great to actually see an updated roadmap
    • Successful implementation of at least two customer-driven features - I'm guessing video is the obvious one?
    • Weekly status updates here on Creators - it's great to see activity from the Ning team again - it's feels like your actually listening and responding to your customers

In a nutshell - some good progress being made and as you will see your communication and responsiveness is bringing new life back to the creators site and you're building confidence with your customers but please deliver on your promises and keep listening to feedback

You need to create a native search that helps community members find great content that we work so hard to add to our networks.

I look forward to improved chat - please include video / chatroom options / sending files etc

The link above to ning is https:// >>>> HTTPS must be included in the paid access if we are going to be taking payment on our sites - PLEASE include this secure certificate across ALL SITES as it's a real problem now Chrome and other browsers are flagging insecure sites especially with work place firewalls being as tight as they are.

    Keep it up.

    A Message from Our CEO
I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every Network Creator for your continued support!  On behalf of the entire Ning Interactive team, I…
    • Hello Mike,

I know it's not the fastest reply to the suggestion posted but I wish to inform you that management has reviewed your suggestion to make it possible to have video chats by using the chat features and I have good news for you, they have decided to implement it on our platform, and as usual good news come together with the bad ones this feature would be implemented only next year as we have lots of plans for the end of teh year.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

    • Oh man, I vote for Search as well.  That's HUGE for any network.
