Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

Good luck and I understand that destiny keeps its own clock so it seems like everything is happening as it should. If you post any more gifs you'll have people think that you are going to work for tumblr :-). It's nice to be wanted (even when the other party knows you have a habit of posting gifs) and get an offer you couldn't refuse because it's certainly better than the alternative.

I feel much better hearing all that you've stated. Have fun best wishes and thanks for all you are doing for this transition.

    • And what about out Customer Advocate, Juliet Kellogg?

      • NC for Hire
Had an email from her yesterday.
      • Juliet was there two weeks ago, she didn't mention any plans to leave when we spoke.

    • Maybe, just maybe, Crystal was not a real person, but several people.  I know of several companies that do this.  So, there is no "rest of the story."

      • Please be assured that Crystal is very much a real (and terrific) person. I've met her several times.

She's recently accepted a job elsewhere, so will soon be moving on.

I think she's quite busy wrapping up a lot of other activities at the moment. I'm sure she's still reading this post though, so please do leave your goodwill messages here. I know she will appreciate it.

I really appreciate that you took the time to let us know this. I don't have to know everything about her life but it's good to know that she is well and moving forward. No matter how good a job we have it is not all smiles and for someone who takes on working in social media, real life and work life it can be especially difficult to separate what you do and who you are. It's a brave and courageous responsibility to be a community manager where all the decisions are not necessarily yours but you still are accountable for the results.

Thank you Crystal for taking that period of time in your life to accept the challenge and help Ning Creators make the transition to 3.0. Thank you for all the Webinars you participated in. Thank you for your personal involvement with members here and most of all thank you for all the behind the scenes things that you did that we will never know about. You are appreciated. May your future be tailor fit for the unique gifts you offer though being yourself.

Let's try this again, my comment was deleted?

It's pretty sad to me that a non-Ning employee has to share this type of news with us.

I wish Crystal tremendous success, and thank her for the awesome work she has done here on Creators. Go Crystal, go!

          End of Story.

            • Just to address a couple of things from that quickly, while I'm here.

No comment from Jen in this thread was deleted by any Ning staff member.

I want to end some of the speculation about the thread that was removed. A senior member of staff reached out to John personally to explain, but I'm happy to address here since I'm the one that instigated it. False information was being shared about staff members in that thread and when a member started seeking out personal information about me, I did not feel comfortable with that, especially as information was being misrepresented. This could have been handled more delicately, but since I raised a personal safety concern, we determined that the best course of action was to quarantine the thread before it escalated further.

I definitely understand why members were seeking information wherever they could find it, but, it still made me feel very uncomfortable. And so we acted as quickly as possible to try to assuage my comfort - we definitely could have communicated this better, but took the action that was right to protect our team at the time.
