Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

        • Again escaping the conceptual debate with ironies, rudeness and lack of ability to read ... very similar to Mode :P

          • =8-o   Gee, now yer makin me feel bad!

            Yes, ironies abound here...sadly.   :(

(off to hone my reading skills now...)

    • If its your first then really those of us that have not only had one but many social sites for years have a bit more knowledge of what the possibilities are and what we have been limited to.

So to your answer yes there are many that can not only duplicate but are better.

      • I 've looked at quite a few, I guess I have not stumbled on the right ones yet.

        • Deborah I have sent you a private message.

          • Hello Skye, I would LOVE to hear what the recommended alternatives are. I have a healthy 3.0 network but it is paid access which I am trying to manage manually - not OK! I'd hoped Ning would bring it in as an option but it seems it is forever in 'waiting' and I can't wait!

          • Skye I would like to have your input on this as well.  I've been in search of a place to go with my site.  But haven't found any good places yet.  I have to do something quick.  Just in a month I went from 80+ members to now just 39.  Sad :(

            • To the individual who keeps posting and not listening to so many other Creators the answer is Yes unequivocally yes and indeed we have proving it many times over.

              • The answer is no, unequivocally no, and you did not prove anything in the other topic. You and your friends simply showed intolerance when I asked bout the concept of "alternative". Simple as that.

  • As a NING 3.0 site owner I can tell you all that I am well beyond getting annoyed.  For one I didn't know NING was going through this new platform change or I would have held off on making my site all together.  I had no option my site is straight up 3.0.  Created in towards the end of March.  And guess what.  There hasn't been any new upgrades sense March.  This is crazy.  I'm stuck with a platform where there is no option for chat.  I don't have video embedding.  I had to make a group to add video's and things.  Most of my members are used to the NING 2.0 and hate my site.  I mean freaken A you can't do anything with your own profile page.  Talking about annoying.  All you can do is post a profile picture and make a cover photo and thats it.  You can't change your profile back ground.  You can't add pictures through your main page unless you add them to your comments section in which case it gets lost quick so there really is no point.  I've lost a lot of members.  Which is sad because my admin and I have worked really hard on the site.  Many people sign up and never even do anything.  As they got on and simply decided they didn't really want to be there but didn't choose to cancel their membership.  The new NING 3.0 platform is so hard to navigate I have people asking me questions like how do I add photo's how do I this and that.  And I've tried taking leaps to explain it and they still don't get it.  This is beyond crazy.  Why didn't NING do all their research before starting the new platform.  I just don't get it.  I'm seriously considering canceling my site.  It's not going anywhere.  It was dead before it ever started.  I have maybe 4 people who post information.  The rest do nothing.  It took people for ever to even figure out how to like something.  I wish I would have known.  So now it's well into July.  Where are those activity feeds upgrades.  Are you seriously telling me it takes 4 months to work on things like this.  Hell if they need help I'll do what I can.  I'm tired of sitting around waiting for them to get things done.  My site is suffering big time.

Here is the link to my site.  If there is anyone out there who can check it out for me and let me know what I can do different please let me know.  I've done everything I possibly know of.  I don't know what else to do to make my site and it's members come a live.
