Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

  • Everyone has their own approach, including Ning and Glam.  I tend to take a simpler approach:  if I am a customer paying for a service I depend on, I expect the service to function as promised.  If it does not and I repeatedly get nothing but non-response and runarounds, then I see no benefit in pretending everything will be just great.  I'll voice my issues, especially if I find the earlier product/service to be very worthwhile and especially if it's difficult to walk out of here and keep my valued content that took years to build.  It's like not watching the news so that you can walk around happy that nothing bad is happening in the world.  In the long run, companies that provide goods and services DO have to listen to their customers' concerns...or face going out of business.

Why just accept shoddy services?  Customers should actively let businesses know what needs to be changed... customer feedback is a positive thing!- even when it's negative feedback.  And yes, if things have been run so poorly that there are 8 negative customer public feedbacks to every two or three positive ones... well then that sends a very strong message to those in charge.  If they are losing longtime customers due to poor service and losing potential customers due to a crumbling public reputation for glaring neglect and foot dragging, then yeah i guess maybe they 'should' be doing something differently.

I think Glam has a specific plan of how to change Ning to make it 'viable'-  unfortunately it may mean they will lose the majority of Ning customers in the process of 're-imagining' Ning.  If they are trying to get away from providing real social community networking tools and lean more towards 'delivering a brand' and collecting targeted consumer info, well then just as they changed GLAM to MODE, they will have to change the name of NING because everyone will forever associate NING with social communities and active member sharing...not just brand delivery to targeted passive consumers.

Long live the Consumer Voice!   :)

    • very well said and I agree completely

  • Well everyone.  As much as I'm not really liking the 3.0 set up I have decided that I'm not ready just yet to let go of my site.  It's still small and new.  And room for improvement.  I think with getting a good admins team together and making some modifications to the site.  Well it may take off.  One thing I have to say here as I believe in the laws of attraction.

Let me explain as I'm going to try and bring more positive energies than negative at this point.  When you bring negative aspects into a situation it only becomes more negative.  If you think negative negative things are going to happen.  Not all taking up for NING here.  But there is a lot of Negativity going on with in this creator site alone.  And the more negativity that comes into well.  You see what's happening.  The longer it is taking NING to get things upgraded and so on.  I think somehow if we could all bring some positive thoughts and have a positive outlook to things.  Well thing will begin to change.  Slowly but yes they will change.  Think positive that NING is going to get it all done.  Keep that in thought.  Try to keep all negative thoughts at bay.

I've seen a post somewhere on here can't remember where I read this.  But it seems that NING is working on the activity feed so it works more effieciantly.  As working on several other things too.  Who knows.  If we can all get positive.  Maybe just maybe here in a couple months we will wake up and our sites will be transformed.  I'm going to try really hard to stay positive.  And I'm going to wait a while longer.  You are all welcome to come check out my site.  It's a spiritual network.  I'm going to be working on some changes.  So here in the next few days it'll look different.  Going to pray that life will come to my site.

    • I like this suggestion, but there's a fine line between "positive thinking" and delusion. At this point, "positive thinking" requires ignoring years of reality and facts. That's actually not very healthy or positive. I wish you luck, though. Considering my line of work in metaphysical counseling and decades of work with the concept of "creating your own reality," I have found there is a really unhealthy and destructive undercurrent to the insistence on "positive thinking." Truly positive thinking includes the negative. It's not at the exclusion of facts, reality, or the negative. That way, you can make healthy and effective choices and take meaningful action. Burying our heads in the sand with planted flowers around us  with the vague and evasive promise of better days doesn't do a whole lot of good. And it's also not great to dwell entirely on disappointment and negativity, either. The answers are across the spectrum, not at one end or the other.

      • Being into this sort of thing myself, i find that true positive thinking is accepting the negative and dealing with it in a positive manner. Simply Ignoring the negative truth while it may seem like positive thinking is actually very destructive to your own worth and makes you nothing more than a victim.

Sure... Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.. that's the nature of reality.

This just shows people talking about this stuff on here how bored we all are on this non existent support forum,

It should be taken from the admin dashboard of our Ning sites. Its a joke it really is, its like waiting to be hung waiting for News, or Something, Anything from Ning on here now.

i dont know about anyone else, but i expect more respect shown to me as a paying customer. its shameful

        • Can't beat a bit of philosophy imho :)

I forget who it was that opined that positivism entails passive acceptance of the status quo. BUT I do recall old Hegel praising the beauty of the 'negative' or critical principle since it is destructive and therefore creative....paving the way for the new.

Anyhoo, I have always found it difficult to grin like an idiot while people pour buckets of s*** over my head.

          Just my twopence worth :)

        • STEVE WROTE: "....i find that true positive thinking is accepting the negative and dealing with it in a positive manner."

Absolutely, beautifully-worded. And considering the mess that Ning has become, I'd have to say that most of us are already putting the best possible positive approach toward this. Venting and sharing in our frustrations that threaten to ruin, or have ruined, our communities after we spent many years and thousands of dollars, is a healthy part of a positive approach.

  • Lesson learned I guess.  When an unusual post is made that effects things here significantly, I make it a policy to check that person's profile page before responding...because it's just all too easy to change a user name, page banner and avatar.  Any goofball can do it.  Anthony is still an active Ning customer and network owner, and can rejoin here at any time using any name he likes (if he hasn't already).  He has come and gone here on Creators at least twice since i've been here, deleting his content on the way out.  I used to respect Anthony a great deal, but after this juvenile prank not so much.

  • It just shows you though how deeply all this is effecting people and really screwing up peoples lives and businesses. while it  wasnt funny and gave out false hope for those who are waiting for some word that Ning are infact still working on this platform and are not on the brink of closing it all down, that topic gave some hope, but a bit like somebody knocking on your door and telling you, you had won the lottery, but then saying " HA HA aprils fool" it did feel in bad taste. i myself felt a state of relief and i haven't got that much to lose, so Goodness knows how others felt.

But what state must Anthony be in to think doing that was acceptable, its one thing to become the Anti Ning, its another to play with creators in that cruel way.

In the end though its not his fault, behaviour like that is usually caused out of fear and if as i suspect he has built his business and his clients businesses around Ning and i for one certainly wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now from his business point of view. He is probably about to lose everything or is fearing he is about to..

Not the best place for your mindset and acting rationally which was self evident.

  • is anyone at Ning home?
