Update to Product Roadmap and Communication Changes

Thank you for your patience over the past several weeks. As you know, we closely follow and appreciate the feedback you share on Creators, and we’d like to make a couple of important announcements related to your posts.

First, regarding the product, the team has been working over the last several months on re-architecting and re-developing a new Activity Feed for Ning 3.0. The new Activity Feed will include the addition of statuses and more embeds based on pasting links into the status field. This isn’t everything that the team is working on but the most significant short term new capability. We are planning to release this feature in July.

We also wanted to address the downtime that some of you experienced on May 26th and 27th. After the scheduled maintenance on Monday to update a group of servers, we discovered that some of the backup servers were malfunctioning. We've corrected this and have changed our operating procedures to prevent this from happening again.

On the communication side, based on several factors including resources and priorities, we have made the decision that we will no longer be involved in providing day-to-day support and feedback through the Creators community. Communication from the Ning team needs to be focused on product capabilities and new releases and other general announcements such as this one. Our team is focusing on expanding some of the planned features that we already have in development. Once we have more information to share with you, we will do it here.

Please continue to use this community as a productive place to have conversations about how to build, grow, and manage Ning Networks. We will continue to provide technical support through tickets and phone. As always, phone support is available to those with networks on Pro, Performance and Ultimate plans. Our technical support team is available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm PST.

  • It has almost been a YEAR since the last update. Is this company even still in existence or is it on autopilot? To make announcements about transfers, and then absolutely stop communicating at all is unconscionable. I love the Ning platform, and look forward to either improvements on 2.0 or 3.0 (but with needed added features that are found on 2.0). Really, Ning, are you guys out there and still alive?? Why have you stopped communicating entirely? It makes us think that the company is either about to go out of business or in such total disarray that even simple updates are not possible. Is anyone manning this ship? If so, please respond, and soon. Big Ning fan--we need to hear from you!

    • I have been using Ning for 6 years, and yes, I love Ning from my day one, especially the support from the founding team.  However, I don't think the company is running now, as we can't see the future, or even a single response to its own community.  How we can be confident on building our community base on this?

  • I'm starting to have buyers remorse. I guess I should have done more homework on ning.com future before signing up for an annual plan.

I really felt like this was the perfect solution for our needs, especially looking at their product roadmap for version 3.0.

Then I realized that the product roadmap hasn't been updated in a long while. And while googling to see if I can find updates on future features like the paid membership and events, I haven't found any new news about those features. Most posts I've found are a year old.

I feel kind of silly now that I pitched this platform to our organization because it seemed like ning has a stable future. I really hope I'm being paranoid or I just missed something.

    • Maybe they've deceived us. :(

      • Meanwhile, here it is April 10 2015, and the Ning Facebook page's latest post is announcing their ning Christmas holiday vacation hours.  More like their 'holiday' is permanent.

        • Certainly seems like they have given up on us, I am very close to closing down my site and I know that it will upset some people but It feels like I am just paying out every month for nothing, there is no interaction like there was with Ning 2 and the notification system is ridiculous......:(

        • So sorry you are stuck Michael.  I never switched to 3.0 and am still with 2.0 after over 7 years.   I dropped my annual plan and went to monthly last July so I could be prepared for when that other shoe drops. The worst part of all of this is....NING has not owned up to any of this mess.  :(

  • Here's this news of Glam to Mode Media and his analisis in spanish language: Glam mode cambia su nombre a Mode Media.

I think it can be a very positive news for the article in Spanish the impact of this change in strategy as a breath of fresh air to a well positioned on the Internet in the US and that is founded on the Ning platform company is analyzed. I think we are good times for Ning Creators.

    • Good times for Glammode.   Ning?- not so much.  Used and discarded.

      • Exactly, how does this news relate to the prospect of Nings future, it doesnt,,

They bought ning to use its code on their own bigger project, now they have done that, Ning has been discarded for all intent and purpose.
