          • Hi Kyryl

Ok, thanks for the information. Just seems a little odd to have to leave the video page to see your videos then go all the way back to the page again if you want to carry on viewing other videos.

            Best Regards

            John

        • Hi John,

You shouldn't have, but I should admit that it will be easier for the management to look through one post instead of several divided comments if it would be necessary, so thanks a lot :-)

I have gotten the answer from the developers about the classes, so according to them when you are using the component approach it's easier and also the right way to use already existing classes which determine the page's block. So they cannot see anything bad in the usage of the classes that would modify existing ones.

          Best regards,

          Ning Team.

          • Thanks for speaking to them and yes I do agree that it is the correct way to use existing classes like the .matrix etc as of course it would make sense to do so while keeping dry code but in some instances like the video page there does need to be a different set for the list entry items and a class added for the video list page. At the moment there is no reference to that page and as each video is using the photo  .matrix-itemFluid .photoListPage-entry classes ( which are the photos classes ) any changes in either of those pages will affect the other page. For instance we have the issue of the grid failing on certain screen sizes for the video list, as these videos have extra bits that the photo page list does not have, so how is the grid going to be fixed without affecting the photos page ? If the classes had been changed and a reference to the video list page it would have been easier to control the flow of the grid without having to worry about it affecting another page.

Now if I wanted to try and fix this or wanted to add some styling to this page the only way to reference the page would be to use the page name class it was given when the page was created, ok but as we can create many instances of the feature that would then mean having to add every page name class to the code. A class was added for the videoDetailPage which is as it should be but not one for the videoListPage.

Now we would also have to look a little bit further into the platform as we also have groups which will also include videos and photos so any changes would also affect those too.

One of the better ideas might have been to use the social channels pages for the new videos as the social channels page did not work to well anyway. Even though it pulled the videos down from the channel page it would only pull down the ones of the first page on youtube and not all of them, then there is the issue of them not playing correctly in tabContainers.

Well I can add my own code to add the classes but not everyone will know how to do this, I am only pointing this out for any future features you may be adding that sometimes addding that little bit extra in the code can save a world of hurt later on if something is not working as it should.

Once again I do appreciate you taking the time to speak the engineers and getting back to us, it is a refreshing change than being kept in the dark and hopefully with all the help of members of Creators and the Ning team we can have a platform we can all be proud off.

            John :-)

    • Sounds kinda halfbaked to me

    • One would expect a Developer to know what he's doing.  *sigh*  Disappointing for a new release since it was there in 2.0 and needed updating codewise.  Am I wrong?

  • In the introduction to Ning 3 videos it says you can add ratings, can't seem to find that option for the videos ?

  • This is a nice step in the right direction, for all you 3.0ers. The missing video, was one of the main reasons I considered 3.0 a downgrade to 2.0!

  • I tried it out.

I am concerned for storage amounts...I think it would be different than what we can do right now in comments yes, when we link to videos? Embedding or whatever this is would surely use up lots of space?

Uploading a video as per new possibility does not show up in my Activity Feed, and I did set up the page correctly.

There does not seem to be a number of videos on display in Add Content tab that one can limit to (appearing on say Front Page)

And the videos when uploaded were white boxes with red arrows on them, which looks naff. I remember in Ning 2 it used to be the image of the video itself.

I deleted the Video page then and decided not to use it as I don't see how I can make it work for me at the moment.

I am still glad to see updates and will burst with joy if chat appears and is fully functional and usable!

    • Hi, Anam!

The issue with the videos and activity feed has been reported already and I have mentioned your network in that report as well.

Yes, unfortunately, there is no way to limit the number of videos that the member can upload to the network, so I have notified the management that NCs want to see such a feature and when the decision regarding implementation of it will be made we will inform you.

About the white boxes and red arrows, could you please provide an example as we haven't seen such an issue any time when the video has been uploaded to the test network.

      Best regards,

      Ning Team.

      • Back again :). I had abandoned the idea of using the Video feature but i'm trying it out again. When i mentioned above that there does not seem to be a number of videos that one can limit I did not mean limiting members uploading, I meant the number of videos that will display in the ''video module'' on the front page, should one choose to have such a module. You know like one can choose 8 blogs or 12 blogs, or 4 forum discussions or 10 forum discussions, or 16 latest activity feed items or 20, etc etc...I cannot see how one could limit the number of videos displaying on the front page in the module assigned. (Gosh it's hard to explain that in words)

I still don't understand if this feature makes videos linked from Youtube to a ''video page'' take up more space on the site than if one simply put them in an ordinary group thread...does it ?

        Thanks
