Just for Fun (8)

once, there was a guy named Gus. and although Gus was without a passion, Gus's head liked to think that Gus was a passionate guy. Gus's head also liked to think that it was bright. in fact, Gus's head just liked to think.

through apparently fortuitous circumstances, Gus was lonely most of the time. often, during that time, mostly because it just liked to think, Gus's head would think. and often, sadly, during that time, Gus's head would think that Gus was lonely most of the time. and often, sadly, mostly because it liked to think that Gus was a passionate guy, Gus's head would think that Gus was lonely most of the time, and do so with a passion. and, at those times, Gus's heart, which was infinitely wiser than Gus's head, and knew that Gus was never really alone, would thus prompt Gus to feel sad, and often, do so with a passion, so as to discourage Gus's head to keep on thinking those thoughts. but Gus's head, which all things considered was indeed bright, though not that bright, just kept on thinking those thoughts, mostly because it just liked to think. Gus's head also kept on thinking that it was bright.

Gus lived in a town where other people lived too. and the other people living in Gus's town liked to talk about Gus. in fact, the other people living in Gus's town just liked to talk. sometimes, some of them would even talk about the fact that, most of the time, most of them were passionate about talking.

through apparently fortuitous circumstances, when he was not around, which meant most of the time, sadly, and mostly because they just liked to talk, when the people would talk about Gus, they would refer to Gus as sad Gus. and often, during that time, sadly, the people would talk about how sad Gus was sad and lonely. sometimes, some of them would even talk about how, most of the time, sad Gus was sad and was without a passion. and as a consequence, sadly, most of the time, most of the other people living in Gus's town were not inclined to spend time with sad Gus.

once, through apparently fortuitous circumstances involving accidental food poisoning, Gus's head, mostly because it just liked to think, thought it would be a good idea to think more about mushrooms. and, mostly because it liked to think that Gus was a passionate guy, Gus's head thought it would be a good idea to think more about mushrooms, and do so with a passion. and, at that time, Gus's heart, which was infinitely wiser than Gus's head, and knew that what Gus really needed was to have some fun, some of the time, seized the moment and prompted Gus to feel passionate about the prospect of cultivating his own morels. Gus's head, which all things considered was indeed bright, though not that bright, just thought it just had had another good idea, mostly because it just liked to think. and, mostly because it liked to think that Gus was a passionate guy, Gus's head thought it would be a good idea for Gus to cultivate his own morels, and do so with a passion.

thus, Gus started cultivating his own morels. Gus's head quickly realized that Gus had great fun cultivating morels, and that Gus could do so with a passion. Gus's head also realized that by cultivating his own morels, Gus cultivated his own morale. and thus, often, happily, during that time, mostly because it just liked to think, Gus's head would think that it was a good idea for Gus to keep on cultivating his own morels. and thus, often, happily, mostly because it liked to think that Gus was a passionate guy, Gus's head thought it would be a good idea for Gus to keep on cultivating his own morels, and do so with a passion. and, at those times, Gus's heart, which was infinitely wiser than Gus's head, and knew that what Gus really needed was to have some fun, some of the time, would thus prompt Gus to feel happy, so as to encourage Gus's head to keep on thinking those thoughts. and thus Gus's head, which all things considered was indeed bright, though not that bright, just kept on thinking those thoughts, mostly because it just liked to think. Gus's head also kept on thinking that it was bright.

thus, through apparently fortuitous circumstances, happily, and mostly because they just liked to talk, when the other people living in Gus's town would talk about Gus, they would talk about his morels, and his morale, and refer to Gus as fun Gus. and often, during that time, happily, the people would talk about how fun Gus was fun and fun to be with. sometimes, some of them would even talk about how, most of the time, fun Gus was happy and was passionate about his morels. and as a consequence, happily, most of the time, most of the people living in Gus's town were inclined to spend time with fun Gus.

and thus, through apparently fortuitous circumstances, happily, most of the time, out of sad Gus's passionate feeling for growing fungus grows fun Gus with a passion.

and thus it is said that absence makes the heart grow fungus.

(well, it is mostly the other people living in Gus's town who like to say so. they also like to say that Gus's head thinks so too. sometimes, some of them even say that it possibly does so because it just likes to think, and do so with a passion. but you know them, they just like to talk. in fact, if that saying actually holds true, it must only do so in Gus's heart, as only hearts can hold truth.)

Will only be a dream?

Hello Everyone, my name is Tony and I am a network creator from Italy. I though to write a short review as appreciation for Ning platforms and to invite my fellow Italians to try it. I have started using Ning back in 2014. I still remember the great impression I had when I discovered it. At the time it wasn't much known in the Country
What I really like about Ning is that it's a social network that help you make your own social network. Can you imagine that?
To me Ning represents a website that everyone can access and meet people with common grounds, and that's a brilliant.
What really distinguish Ning from other networks is that members have control and can decide which rules they want to set and follow so they can shape who they would like their social network.
User experience is terrific! There are amazing tools for discussion and to share content. Interface is easy and gives many ways to post and contribute.
For example, there's the opportunity to comment on members pages, discuss issues in threaded forum topics, post pictures, videos, and podcasts, create interest groups, add friends to your profile, and much more. Ning enables you to create and discover social networks for the most important people and interests in your life, the social networking as a whole has become a true phenomenon. I love the Ning platform and am very excited about the networks I have created and those in which I participate. I must say I truly appreciate all the amazing work the Ning team have done in order to provide us with a great platform that enables to create communities.
Throughout the years Ning it’s always the best. I  appreciate Ning 3.0 but I adore Ning 2.0. Creating new networks with NING 2.0 will only be a dream?
Have you ever thought that many creators would be extremely happy to create new networks with the Ning 2.0 platform? I think that being able to choose would be a very good development. At the same time each creator would be able to create more networks. I believe that out there many people love Ning 2.0 and I hope this dream will one day will come true.

If you have been on Creators for a while you may remember my post about Survey Earth in a Day back in 2012.  This is a GLOBAL Community event for our Land Surveyor Community.

NING-POWERED PROJECT: Survey Earth in a Day

Well, this year will be our 6th year remeasuring the entire planet as a community, in a single day.

What Is Survey Earth in a Day?

On the day of the solstice June 20, 2017, geospatial professionals around the world and members of Land Surveyors United (a global support network for land surveyors) will be simultaneously recording survey grade GNSS/GPS data from thousands of points around the globe, in order to promote awareness of and a better public understanding of the surveying profession. Measurements made on this day will serve as comparative data from prior events and to expand upon the database of logged points.

You still can,...if you believe!

Wow, what a week this has been. It's been one big backfire, problem, slowdown, personal stuff too - - one after another. I shared this on JenSocial, and thought I'd share it here, too. Tonight would be an easy night to say "Just @#$% it." But, I'll choose the positive route, and will try to spread a little inspiration to the next fellow, like the young Creator of this Video did for me.

So, if you've had a crazy week, take a few minutes to watch this little video. It's very simple, but incredibly inspiring. Take a look. Hopefully it will help make your week a little better. It really helped me reclaim that "I can do it." attitude. If you don't believe in yourself and your ideas, you can't take action. It's never too late, just believe.

You still can,...if you believe!

Last day, and Mama's headin' out the door to an SXSW party (Get OUT. Reeeeeally??). Unlike last night and the night before, tonight should be a fairly early one (*snort*), seeing as my flight leaves at 8:30 tomorrow morn.

What a fabulous experience this trip has been. I've been inspired, learned some new things, met some great people, made fantastic contacts (fingers crossed!), and hopefully turned a bunch of people on to the awesomeness that is Ning.

I'm SO grateful for such an amazing opportunity -- I have no question that with all I've gained these past few days, Swap Mamas will benefit immensely. I owe it all to you, Ning. I'll definitely be posting better pics when I get home ... catch y'all soon!

Today was FANTASTIC. Great sessions, great parties, and now, at 11 pm, we're on our way BACK out to meld into the fray -- first on the list, the Mashable Party (if we can deal with the line wrapping around the block)!

I'm spreading the Ning luv aaaalll around -- hoping to catch up with the RVIPers shortly. (Ning has an RV. They drive around. They let people on. And they SING KARAOKE. It's a beautiful thing.) One thing's clear -- EVERYONE knows what Ning is. And convincing them of it's awesomeness has been unnecessary.

Best session today? Peter Shankman of HARO (Help A Reporter Out). If you're not already familiar with his site, do yourself a favor, head over and sign up for his 3x daily newsletter. His best advice? Be kind to people. When someone asks what my business model is, it's hard not to respond, "Be good to people and good things will come to you." It's how I live my life and it's how I run my network.

Sadly, tomorrow's my last day ... I'm packing in as many panels as I can. As for photos? Of course, I have a bunch. But, um ... yeah, left the cord to download 'em at home. Lovely. Sooo, I promise to post as soon as I get back. For the time being, this crappy phone-photo should whet your appetite.

To be clear, this is NOT the Ning RV. (One can dream ...)

Day One at SXSW and seriously? I heart nerds. And I say that with all kind of luv, seeing as I'm a complete nerd myself. (Self-love is good, no?) Which means I'm in H-E-A-V-E-N.

So far, best part of the day, was the Opening Speaker, Danah Boyd. Boyd works at Microsoft Research New England and also serves as a fellow at the Harvard University Berkman Center for Internet and Society. She's doing some fascinating stuff with regard to privacy and publicity. And one of her comments struck me as particularly relevant to many of the conversations going on in the Ning Creators Community. In a nutshell, she makes the very valid point (IMHO) that when it comes to social networks, more is not necessarily better. That just because we CAN "optimize" the user's experience, doesn't necessarily mean we SHOULD.

Hallelujah.

I've often felt, that as much as I ADORE social media, it's important to remain grounded and remember that nothing replaces the human touch, metaphorical, or physical. Leaving just a little bit of that "human" experience in my network is integral to my network, and I would argue, ANY network. And when you can create a community that successfully straddles the chasm between the virtual world and reality? Gold.

So, enough of the soapbox. Needless to say, I was impressed. And inspired. And later, when I attended the panel, "The Socially Conscious Geek: Making Money While Doing Good," I was inspired even more.

Like I said, I heart nerds. (Oh, and Ning, btw. :D)

PLUS ...

they party like ...

Forever's gonna start tonight.

But more about that tomorrow. (RAWR.)
