2 Complaints about the new Dashboard

Hey Ning Network Creators:

You've probably noticed that at the navigation bar on your Ning network, it says "My Network" instead of the old "Manage." I have 2 problems with this page, and here they are:

1) It looked better when it said "Manage" and not "My Network." It looked a lot better when it just said "Manage."

2) The new "Dashboard" is extremely hard to navigate through! It was SOOOOOOO much better when they had those little icons on the different rows! Now you have to go through different lists to try to find an item.

Why did they have to mess our Ning networks up? First: they made us pay for this stuff, and Second: it's not even good (with few exceptions.) Please reply to this post if you agree with me.

I don't think I will, Robin. I edit a lot of sites that use languages I don't know. I loved the fact that the icons served the Universal audience. That is no longer true. And as far as ingenious, I don't agree. But, ain't it wonderful that we all have different opinions?

Hi Jen, The changes we announced for My Network navigation improvements are all in production now!

If you wish to see the old manage style icons on your Dashboard simply log in to your network and go to the following URL: http://{networkname.ning.com}/main/dashboard?showDashboardShortcuts=1

Note: Please make sure to replace "{networkname.ning.com}" with the actual name of your network.

I have to agree. I can't imagine why the Designer/Developers of Ning think the new Manage panel is better than the previous one. But, maybe it's just because I use it so much?

I don't think it has anything to do with you or anyone using it "too much." I think that they just thought, "Hey: Why don't we re-do the Manage (now the My Network) page so its 'easier' to navigate through."

If they said that, here's my reply: "Ha ha- No."

I guess what I meant was this: I can use the manage panel in my sleep, as a lot of us can. And, maybe I'm just set in my ways and habits. But I've gotta say, I would love to get the old panel back!!! ;-) The new one is convoluted and confusing.

agreed, it looks a mess and is really a PITA to navigate all those options.

We used to at least be able to do stuff on iPhones viewing original site vs. mobile. Now, not at all, hands are tied for mobile administration.

I haven't checked mine out on my iPhone... Does the social network look different?

No it does not look different but the mobile version does not have an admin tab, thus you needed to view the site as original then navigate to admin area. This was easily navigated when they were nice clean icons, now its a mess and a half. Useless on a mobile device.

I have to agree here. I can't even find the sites that belong too any more because the dashboard is all messed up and confusing. Jens social network was easy; because she's a member here. The other social networks that I belong too I didn't bookmark the links because the list came up every time I connected with the main ning.com screen. Now all I get is the networks I created and that's it!! What Happened to the list of social networks that I belong too? :(
