3 Members with sideways profile picture

I know this may not be a Ning problem. But these three folks recently joined my private network and all three have uploaded profile pictures that are on their side. These people are not very technical but I can't think any of them would load an image that's sideways and expect it would display properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can guide them to fix this? I don't see any way in Ning for them to rotate the pic. I know Preview will rotate a picture on a Mac. What's the best way to do that in Windows?

I'm also curious if anyone else has noticed this. I've not seen sideways profile pictures really at all in the last 2 years. Now 3 in the last 3 days. Just wondering.

I just had the same thing happen and hope there is an easy answer.

That does sound weird. It doesn't look like you're using the Ning Aviary Extension, which does allow you to rotate images. So, that might explain it if you were. But you're not. So I'm kind of stumped.

It's possible that these members took a picture and uploaded it directly from their mobile phones. You can rotate photos that are uploaded to the Photos feature, but profile photos don't have that same capability. In Windows, you can rotate an image easily using the Windows Photo Viewer. Yes the member uploaded the picture that way.  So it is his profile picture and now I understand there is nothing I can do but beg him to correct it.

I have been seeing member's uploading pics like this.  I usually rotate them if they are in the gallery.  It would be nice if I could do that for their profile pic.  They usually notice it and change it on their own.

You can send your members to an online image editor like iPiccy

They have a one-click rotate&flip function, and tons of other neat effects.

My members are close to 70, I'm just happy they can turn the computer on.

Yeah, I laughed too.  My members are mostly older as well.  I have one valued member who donates to my site regularly, whose avatar is upside down.  I'm just glad he's still on the ride side of the grass!    lol!

Well is there any chance that in the future ning will come up with something for us to work on profile pictures?

It's a good idea. No plans yet, but I'll be happy to pass this along to our product team for their consideration.
