I know this may not be a Ning problem. But these three folks recently joined my private network and all three have uploaded profile pictures that are on their side. These people are not very technical but I can't think any of them would load an image that's sideways and expect it would display properly.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can guide them to fix this? I don't see any way in Ning for them to rotate the pic. I know Preview will rotate a picture on a Mac. What's the best way to do that in Windows?
I'm also curious if anyone else has noticed this. I've not seen sideways profile pictures really at all in the last 2 years. Now 3 in the last 3 days. Just wondering.
Thanks, Nancy

Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on November 26, 2012 at 6:03pm That does sound weird. It doesn't look like you're using the Ning Aviary Extension, which does allow you to rotate images. So, that might explain it if you were. But you're not. So I'm kind of stumped.
Permalink Reply by Allison Leahy on November 27, 2012 at 8:50am It's possible that these members took a picture and uploaded it directly from their mobile phones. You can rotate photos that are uploaded to the Photos feature, but profile photos don't have that same capability. In Windows, you can rotate an image easily using the Windows Photo Viewer. Here's a short video tutorial.
Permalink Reply by Santa Norm on November 27, 2012 at 9:16am Yes the member uploaded the picture that way. So it is his profile picture and now I understand there is nothing I can do but beg him to correct it.
Permalink Reply by Tyler Durbin on November 27, 2012 at 10:28am I have been seeing member's uploading pics like this. I usually rotate them if they are in the gallery. It would be nice if I could do that for their profile pic. They usually notice it and change it on their own.
Permalink Reply by Atheist Universe on November 27, 2012 at 11:57am You can send your members to an online image editor like iPiccy
They have a one-click rotate&flip function, and tons of other neat effects.

Permalink Reply by Tyler Durbin on November 27, 2012 at 6:07pm Ok, this just made me laugh!
Yeah, I laughed too. My members are mostly older as well. I have one valued member who donates to my site regularly, whose avatar is upside down. I'm just glad he's still on the ride side of the grass! lol!
Permalink Reply by Santa Norm on November 28, 2012 at 7:35am Well is there any chance that in the future ning will come up with something for us to work on profile pictures?
Permalink Reply by Allison Leahy on November 28, 2012 at 10:36am It's a good idea. No plans yet, but I'll be happy to pass this along to our product team for their consideration.
Permalink Reply by Nancy Marsh on November 28, 2012 at 9:23pm Thanks for all the responses. Wonderful suggestions. Especially a tool that would allow me to fix it for them. My members would be so grateful.
