I've just noticed that Google seems to have indexed both the www version and the non-www version of my Ning website. Is there anyway to implement a 301 redirect so that my non-www is pointing to my www version.
I would usually do this with the htaccess file but I'm not sure if this is something I can upload via the file manager (and didn't want to try in case it created a problem).
Cheers all,
Marc

I've attached a screeny of my domain mapping, do these look like the correct settings? I think I may have submitted a sitemap to my webmaster tools that contained the non-www version which is why it's been indexed alongside the www.
Cheers :)
Hi Marc,
The non-www version of your network currently does a 301 redirect to the www version. From what I can see, only the main page of the non-www version has been indexed, which makes sense. The other pages in the index are for the www version.
Thanks,
Phil

Thats strange, I always get a 200 response code when I check on http://tools.seobook.com/server-header-checker. I think what I've done is submit a sitemap with both the non-www and www versions so Google's came along and crawled and indexed both. It's no biggy really as my links are all going to be pointing to the www version :) I've attached some screenshots of both appearing in Google, but yeah should be alright once I get some links,
Cheers for your help :)

Hi Marc,
Interesting; I think that tool must be skipping over the redirect. Here's what I get in Charles Proxy:
In Google's webmaster tools, there's a facility to choose your preferred domain, so that might be worth checking out. Also, when I did a site specific search, I only had one result for non-www, but 3 or 4 for the www version.
Thanks,
Phil
