Hi there
I've had several members complain about not being able to add profile pictures via their iPhone. I can do it via Blackberry but generally the compatibility of Ning with iPhone seems to be lacking.
Does anyone know if it's possible to add a profile picture directly via the iPhone or iPad?
Thanks
Anna
Hi Anna,
Web sites don't have access to the image library on devices like the iPhone or iPad or most Android devices. This is not a limitation of the site, but of the device, and it's there as a security precaution. It's not something that we can make available. We have a mechanism for adding photos to networks using email, but we don't provide an option for making the image a profile photo currently.
Thanks,
Phil
Permalink Reply by Anna Ewing on February 13, 2012 at 11:02am Thanks for the reply Phil, I really appreciate it. It's strange that it works via my Blackberry.
Would this be a possible consideration for a future roadmap? To be able to mark a photo uploaded to email to be set as a profile pic? Perhaps if it were titled with a particular name or something (I'm not sure on the logistics)?
Whilst I have your ear....in the same vein re. iPhone compatibility - is it possible to make it so the mobile version of Ning does not show when visited via iPhone - i.e. to make it so by default it shows the full version only? It's just the limited Ning version as it stands isn't a good representation of the full site and is confusing members.
Thanks
Anna
Hi Anna,
This might be possible in a future update, but there are some more fundamental aspects of the emailing-in service we would need to address first.
A new mobile web version of networks is on the way; that should address most of the issues with the current mobile version. There isn't a way to turn it off at this time.
Thanks,
Phil
