Adding Links

Is there a plan to add a 'Links' section to Ning or to the Activity feed.

On Facebook you can add a link and it imports a thumbnail and description etc.

These added links could be summarised on a links page. ie. a focal point of all shared links on the site.

I am aware there maybe spam implications to this. Maybe linking the feature to a timescale before it's available to a member for example.

Great question. We've thought about it, although it would require some work on our part (or a paid subscription by Ning to a special service) to reliably fetch that content for publishing. It would be very handy. I will pass along the suggestion to our product team. We've had a few requests for things like this.

I'd be very interested in the feature for my network too, even without the nice thumbnail preview.

We would use this for the News section, where people post links to external sites, and I'd like it to be separate from the forum or statuses, and also to more prominently feature the external URL.

PS: Grou.ps does it nicely, they have the option to moderate links before they are posted, which is very nice and would deter spam.
