Adding pictures with links to the header (above the navigation bar)

Hi Everyone,

I have been trying to fill some of the white space in the header next to my logo. I added in a couple of social media buttons but they are temporary and will only display properly on a standard sized screen. I was wondering if anyone new how to permanently add a picture/link to the header....that's not just floating there? Or if anyone has any other tips to further customize the navigation bar/header, that would be great!

you can use jQuery .append() function like this:
