I'm going to report this directly to Skysa this morning, but I wanted to alert all of you to this issue.

A member who is waiting to be approved for membership can use the IM feature on Skysa!!

I was chatting away with a member the other night using the IM, and she asked me for a link to a story, but when I linked her, she said "Oh, I guess I have to wait until you approve my membership first."

WHAT??!!  I had no idea she was waiting for approval, as I hadn't refreshed my main page for awhile!  This could cause just as many problems as a SUSPENDED member being able to use the chat!! (which Skysa fixed.)  Especially if the person waiting to be approved is a former troublemaker trying to sneak back in with a different name!!

I dropped Skysa 2 weeks ago. There were non-members showing up under crazy screen names.

you're kidding?  If my site is private, would that happen in my chat?

@ Donna Mac

Not sure.  You'd have to test that.  Maybe get a member to try and join with another username.  Then see if they can chat before they're approved.  I'm waiting on a  response from Skysa.

@Teriann, I've never had non-members show up on my chat.  I DO know that if a member has symbols in their username, the Skysa chat doesn't know how to interpret them and their name ends up looking like gobbledygook.

We don't have any members with symbols in their screen names. Some of the names appearing in the Chat were "associated" screen names and not initials or first names as many of our members use:  i.e., "kill4U" or "rockhard".... that's how we knew they were not associated with any members. That's why we questioned it. I'm using Wibiya right now and not having any issues.

Chat can be hacked. I had it happen a couple years ago here with Ning chat. It's not a biggee unless its a lot of vulgar statements. NING slapped it down quickly once I could capture a screen shot to help them. The Skysa bar is OUTSIDE Ning... It's placed by script inside your network and it's not on Ning's servers... it's on Skysa's by direct link.

The great thing about Skysa is you send in a support ticket and you get an automated response same day.  Usually by the next day you have an answer to your question.  Their support is amazing, in my opinion!

This issue is resolved now.  Skysa has taken this ability away from members who are waiting for approval.  They actually tested it with a test account on my network so they could see how this was happening and how it could be fixed.

Their response to my ticket (yesterday):

Okay, we have identified the flag which shows if a user has been approved yet. Due to browser caching it may take up to 24 hours for everyone to have the latest script files, but it should now be fixed.

I agree!  Their support has been awesome in my experience for two years.  I wouldn't consider dropping them.
