Hi,
are there any communities about science? How do you address issues/dificulties related to the use of the text editor?
I mean, the present text editor is obviously insufficient to write in scientific terms. It lacks under/superscript options, symbols, insert equations...
We are experimenting several communication limitations because of this. Any suggestions?

Permalink Reply by Ascot on May 4, 2012 at 7:36pm had a demo but removed it........my site looked like a science project....... you can get it working with a script
google ASCIIMathML.js i tested it and will require a few changes to your site to work 100%
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 5, 2012 at 6:21am Hi,
I saw your demo. The equations were pretty fine. It was just what I was looking for. How did you do that? Can you explain me with some more detail. I don't understand much of programming... :(
Permalink Reply by Ascot on May 5, 2012 at 8:29am a code you upload scans your pages for SHORT HAND Formulas eg
e^(i pi)=-1
AA x in CC (sin^2x+cos^2x=1)
sum_(i=1)^n i^3=((n(n+1))/2)^2
and converts these into equations the problem is it scans EVERYTHING not just blog posts ,i ,you ,or someone else at ning, needs to find a way to only scan some areas eg forum and blog posts.
I am 100% sure this can be fixed
if you want to see it: put this in your custom code
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://api.ning.com/files/7jfjnGSRmvfxqFCeyJ47brfGv*bDTx6BlHQR-r75see14TvBAgjrRkfk4gMG*j7AtLRU-hZZ60isbpsXEZln1Tros0v8YAPv/science.js"></script>
LOOK and then REMOVE ASAP
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 5, 2012 at 3:12pm Thks Ascot! I'll try on my test network.
Do you use this code in you network?
Another thing: members write the equation like this
e^(i pi)=-1
AA x in CC (sin^2x+cos^2x=1) ...
And then the code converts them into pretty equations. Is that it?
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 6, 2012 at 3:32pm where, exactly, do we insert the code?
Permalink Reply by Ascot on May 6, 2012 at 3:43pm Q1 ..No
Q2 ...put it in custom code
Q3 yes like pi will turn into ...... (TT) but the users need to know the shorthand
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 6, 2012 at 3:54pm Thks Ascot. I'll try! :)
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 6, 2012 at 4:01pm It works!! :)
Why do you say to remove ASAP? Does it make the platform unstable?
Permalink Reply by Ascot on May 6, 2012 at 4:33pm it messes up other things look around your site you will see blue italic dates etc. is also messes with some functions..
it will mess up your site yes but as soon as you remove it, it will all go back to normal think of it like google translate....... you translate your whole site into a science project.........what you need to do is translate only blogposts. that is what you need help with....
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 7, 2012 at 3:21am I see Ascot. Thks! Let's see what I can do....
Permalink Reply by Vera Marques da Cunha Monteiro on May 5, 2012 at 6:23am I run a community for secondary students and teachers of Chemistry and Physics. Is a Portuguese community (http://fqnosecundario.ning.com) and much more small than yours (about 720 members).
I saw your community. Pretty interesting!! Congratulations! :)
