I'm asking the eminent Ning/JavaScript experts around here:

I need my script to set a variable to the member's name, as it appears in the header of .xg_user_info.

I think I have reached the limits of my trial-and-error method =/
Does anyone know the correct formulation?

THNX.

Hello!

If a member is signed in to a network, their name appears in a javascript variable that Ning sets up for us:

ning.CurrentProfile.fullName

I don't know if that answers your question but I hope it helps!  If not, describe further what you are hoping to do and I'll see if I can be more helpful.

Best wishes!

It totally does!
That's what I was looking for, thank you sir.

Any other account properties associated with ning.CurrentProfile?

Glad I was able to help!

Yeah there's some good info on the member who is viewing the site.  Just "View Source" and you'll see the ning variable near the very top of the page.

For example, for me:

"CurrentProfile":
{"id":"1wtvjg4o8ruf3",
"profileUrl":"http:\/\/creators.ning.com\/profile\/TJJames",
"location":"NC, USA",
"age":xx,
"gender":null,
"fullName":"TJ @ jQueryHelp",
"photoUrl":"http:\/\/api.ning.com\/files\/A4BjGhjgxv3XVEE4mH-d0URMtYjwvWjUoobeXBsYAagWwqD13A5Vonhq0*EGiyqQL3lSpSK5sQZvXM0A37J-hLFz5vPP-dt7\/tigerregal_1024x768.jpg?crop=1%3A1",
"country":"US"}

I x'ed out my age :-)
Most of that is self explanatory, photoUrl is your profile pic.

Have a great day!

this could be solution to editing a single Members page having trouble with can this be done w/CSS also... have no clue how to write Java !

You can see the real name of a member when you are over his link with your pointer, it appears in the preview bar of your browser (in my case firefox) and it remains the same even if the member change his name

yes but .xg_widget_profiles_profile_Woody13 does nothing there is an id # in the script how to write it i would like to know...

Yes, but I wanted to set a variable in a script with that info and I just didn't know the correct Ning name: ning.CurrentProfile.fullName

ok i understand that is Java but how would i write a code to modify a Members page that is not responding to CSS or how would i write it in CSS ? dont know anything about Java, please.

I'm not sure I understand what you want to do but some things can be done with CSS only, while others absolutely require javaScript (or jQuery) in concert with the CSS.

i need to control one of my Members' page for example .xg_widget_profile_JohnDoe  #xn_bar{ z-index: 999; }

if i can find his Ning code name it has to be in Java right ? There is no CSS for this ?
