I created a contest on my network. l would take a image like this one:
And l would have members look for that image. Right now l hid 3 of these butterflies in three groups. Members then need to send location of the butterflies in a private message to me. The first one to give me all three location is the winner.
I send them a gift or two, or have then as Homorary Member for a year. And Honorary Members are those who donate to my site and get more contests then the members.
The gifts also can include a present from you if the member does not mind giving you their mailing address. All my winners over the last two years have given me their mailing address and l send their gift to them, and they keep trying for every contest l have. It is fun, and also lets them read interesting articles along their seek.
Only put the hidden image in group, Nowheres else. The smaller the image the better. And giving great gifts to the winner makes them all keep having fun.
Try this out and see how it works for you!
Also, word of month from your members to their friends, bring more members to your site.
Enjoy!

Permalink Reply by Tasha on September 24, 2011 at 1:49am Hey there Star-Dust, I'm doing something similar to that on my site right now, I've been running it for 4 days already and the member participation has been awesome!, they are having fun trying to find our site logo, which I miniaturized and placed around the site, bit of mixed feedback, while I have those that love the contest I have the few that are frustrated because they cant find it lol.
But like publicity any feedback is good feedback right? lol. I added a twist, I've got a "bonus" Icon which they get extra points for if they find it
Contests and free stuff are always going to garner you a few more members, I havent run any full on comps yet, just ones with my current members.
I am getting a few new members also every week. And they really reply to the discussions if they see ones that are intersting.
Yes, they can say the darnest things, like the butterflies flew away, lol
