Hi there --

I have a test site that I use to try out new ideas for my live site. I'm trying to remove the blog feature from that site in order to look at different ways of managing communications in my site.

Even though I've removed the blog feature and saved the changes, blogs are still available in the site.

I've deleted all existing blog posts to see wehther that did it. Nope.
I cleared my browser cache. Didn't work.
I've logged in as administrative user and as a member. No difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Melanie

Bump, we just removed ours today and are seeing the same thing.
Hi Melanie and d&e,

Right now blogs are an integrated part of each profile, so they can't be removed per se. Adding the Blogs feature provides a blogs tab and a Main page module, and removing the feature removes those two elements. We know this is inconsistent with the way the other features work, and it's on our list of things to address.

Thanks,
Phil
Thanks for the info, Phil!

Hi Phil,  Can you give us an update on this?  And also on whether the groups feature can be removed?

Sigh, ooook. We really want to funnel all our content into the forums. Is there perhaps some way to hide that module with some code in the analytics box?
Hi PL Team,

This should hide the Blog Posts link on profile pages:

<script type="text/javascript">
if (typeof(x$) != 'undefined' && document.location.href.indexOf('/profile/') > -1) {
var bp = x$("div.xg_module_body ul.nobullets li")[0];
bp.style.display = 'none';
}
</script>

I've also filed a bug to remove that link if the Blog feature isn't active.

Thanks,
Phil

Hi luvNING - did you get any further on this?

This is something I want to do also.

Thanks for your help - even if just to let me know the answer is no and i can stop looking!

Hi LuvNing, thanks for getting back to me.

Good to know either way, shame they haven't tackled this though.

Just a heads up that this code doesn't work to hide blogs on all profiles.

Any thoughts?

It's May 2011 -little over a year since this thread was started- and this glitch still hasn't been solved! Any ideas when you guys are going to get to this?

Phil, your custom code only removes the navigation link in the left column of a member's My Page. It doesn't remove the 'My Blog' box with the 'Add a Blog Post' in the center column of a member's page.

As far as I can tell this box doesn't show up on the NC/admin's My Page, only on a member's My Page. And if I visit the member's My Page as NC/admin I don't see the My Blog box, only the member himself sees it!

I want to remove the blog, too.

Some users get confused and think they're posting to the discussion forum, but they're only posting on their blog.

Ditto, have had this problem for years now.  Why the blog feature would be integrated into a user's profile is beyond me.  But this really should be a feature a creator can chose to enable and disable on their network.  It is a common problem that people confuse the blog with the forums and then they wonder why no one is responding to their posts.  We should have the choice on how we wish communication to be handled on our networks.  This has "been on the list" for three years now.  I think it should have risen to the top by this time.
