I wanted to check if any decision and/or progress has been made on this?
Groups form a vital part of the new business model I am implementing for my website, and the discussion forum within the groups will be very important. I would have to agree with (the few) other NC's who have replied that it would be very welcome to see this happen.
After all, Groups are meant to function as specialised modules of the main network, and a categorised discussion forum would add to that feeling of completion. It is beneficial to have the spectrum for fleshing out a group topic, if you will, at our creative fingertips :)
Just my two cents, but I hope they'll count ;)
Kind regards
QY
Permalink Reply by Quan Yin on January 31, 2012 at 7:27am Just as an afterthought: in our network, for instance, we don't use the MAIN forum, only the discussion forum inside of the Groups.
We WOULD use the Main Forum if there was any way for that forum to be members-only without having to shut the entire website down minus the main page, however, that would be a game changer.
However since at current to my knowledge the main forum cannot be used this way, we have opted for the forum modules within the groups, considering the groups can be locked down to non-members.
Each group has their own speciality topic and that's an entire world on its own each time, which would require a proper forum with discussion categories in each group in order to function as a sovereign unit.
Would something like this be quite a big project to implement?

@Jai, tagging is so inefficient. To put it bluntly, members suck at tagging, no matter how many tutorials you post about it.

Add it to the never ending list & keep up the good work. I love what we have been doing lately :)
I understand that categorizing groups themselves may be some time from now, but the Discussions within the group would certainly be helpful. I would like to be able to keep training discussions together, but they could have many names and acronyms that would be difficult to tag / members to know.
@Diane, I would have to agree about the tagging. It works only IF it's done properly. If not, and you are looking for specific information, you might as well be searching through the yellow pages without it being in alphabetical order or grouped together....boring. It happens here on Creators too. How many times have you searched for a topic...couldn't find something...made a post..and then found a few of them later.
Groups are our mini-networks within our networks and honestly where people spend most of their time. Less time searching = more time contributing.
