I wish to ask Ning if we could have categories on video page. or is there anyone who knows how to create categories on Video page?

Looking for a particular video on video page has become a night mare for my members. If we had categories it will simplify the search by clicking on category and the to title group of the videos.

Only a few of my members have migr4ated over to the ning network Im building. Our network is a world wide fellowship that requires multi functional categories or photos and videos.  If Ning is unable to provide categories, we desperately need to find an embed program, or we may need to look at other networking options.  We like most everything about ning thus far, but out network will not function properly without photo and video categories

There are quite a few Ning networks that are using tags to categorize images and videos. Hopefully someone will happen along to explain how they do it.

Hi Partrick, just give any video any tag and make a link in your navigation (to this tag). Maybe some RSS for you frontpage with this specific tag. Not perfect but it works.

Not me, Rowald. Paul is asking the question.

Sorry;) You're right.

For tags to be adopted by members we'd need a dropdown list of pre-defined tags.

Hey, Paul. This is one of the biggest requests we've heard, and it is one that we have considered. Unfortunately, it hasn't made it onto our Product Roadmap yet, but I will definitely let our team know that this is a huge request.

Eric dont forget about groups catagories. we need catagories in blogs, groups, videos. Photos can be mangaed though albums but all these 3 things should be provided to us. please look into it as soon as possible

Thank you - I manage several Ning networks and even lost a client because of this.  They wanted to organize the videos and photos that are relevant (categories) into their groups.

I can't wait to be able to do this.

Hiya I agree this is a big must for Ning moving forward. In the meantime I have however achieved this using Tags. I don't use videos on my network and instead use it for photos but the process is exactly the same to enable it in videos. If you tag a photo/video then click on the tag once it has been added it will take you to a page where it displays all videos/photos with the same tag. Go to your browser address bar and grab the link. Copy and paste and then create a menu using HTML that links directly to each category.

I made a nav bar in the custom code box which appears on every page of my network and this comprises direct links to each Tag category so enables members to browse by category essentially. You can also grab the RSS feed (if your network isn't totally closed) individually for each Tag category which can be handy. I also used the language editor to change the word Tags to read Category.

Hope this helps.

Edit:

If you want to PM me I'm happy to send you a link to my Ning network so you can see a working demo.

To categorize groups we use the group's Location field as a tag.
And put the search strings in menu tabs.
