Closing a Discussion Within a Group

It appears that this action is now only allowed for the original Group Creator.

 

Not even a Site ADMIN or NETWORK CREATOR has the ability to close a discussion within a group - that they did not originally create.

 

If a group creator leaves the community, there is now no way to close any discussions within that group - except for deleting them.

 

We use to be able to do this all the time and now this option has been removed.

 

Any comments?

Hello! I don't think anything has changed about the limitations that are currently in place, but I could be wrong about that. In any case, this is actually something we are looking at changing to make the Group Forum functionality match the way the main Forum works. I don't have a date for you, but this is something we may be adding to the Product Roadmap soon. So, great point, and hopefully we can get this to be more in line with what you expect.

I'm positive that the ability to CLOSE a group discussion was always available to the NETWORK CREATOR - regardless who created the group.

 

I would like to think an ADMIN had this capability, but can''t be sure.

 

I do know, over the past few weeks, I have been able to CLOSE group discussions in groups I did not originally create.

 

Maybe something also has to do with the discussion creator as well?

It is now January, 2012 and the NC still cannot close a discussion.  I have a birthday card exchange running from another member who has left the network and a new woman has taken her place for 2012.  I HAVE to close the old discussions rather than remove them.  As a Creator, we MUST have this capability.  Every social network has a person who can oversee all aspects of a network, so why not NING?

I know that discussions here on NING are closed by NING all the time even though it was started by an NC.  Why are we not offered the same courtesy?

You should be able to close a discussion as the NC.  I have this ability on my network.  Have you submitted a ticket with links to the discussion that you can't close?

Donna is referring to discussions in groups.....unless you started the discussion, you cannot close it, even as NC.

I am for the addition of this ability as well.

Nope, I cannot add myself as Admin nor can I remove discussions in the group.  And there is no place to close the group either.

Speed Racer, I just went into a private group that I did NOT create and I clicked on a discussion in that group that I DIDN'T post and I DO have the ability to close that discussion. "Close Discussion" is in the "Options" drop down menu.   That's because I promoted myself to Group Admin a long time ago.

So, Donna SHOULD be able to promote herself to group admin in ANY group and use that power to close discussions.  Something's wrong on her network if she cannot do that.

Then there is something seriously wrong with my network.  I can't add myself as admin unless I am not seeing where to do it.  And, I really wanted to close discussions, rather than the group.  Can't do that either.  UGH.  This is something that really drives me up the wall.  I don't want to delete the group, just close discussions.   Time to get a ticket going...

Bon!  Yay!  Thank you!  I did not see the drop down AFTER clicking on Manage Group members.  and then I was even able to close discussions to!  So, thank you so much!!!  Thanks to everyone for input.
