I've never had a problem with spammers or spambots, doesn't mean they haven't tried though. I must admit, since using CF, they don't come knocking on my door these days.

Phil from Ning suggested CF in a discussion some months back. Great advice.

I just set mine up. Took 5 minutes tops and well worth it. Thanks Patrick and Josh.

A quick note - Make sure you don't use simultaneous js loading because it messes up my chat in Chrome and IE.

Okay I will double check mine to make sure its fine. I appreciate you Mr. Swap!

Hi, what is this cloudflare and how do you set it up? how does it stop spammers? Sorry I am a little out of the loop! but I went to the site and saw many things but no clear answer or maybe I am dense, and I don't see how admins can stop spammers this way..?

It stops spammers at the DNS level, then if suspected as a spammer (usually a bot) it will show them a captcha. All you need to do is > make an account (cloudflare.com) add your domain there > scan it > change your DNS settings with your hosting company to point to there servers and your done. You can select the level of security you need.

This is show it works - this is just from Wednesday - http://www.webpagescreenshot.info/img/376301-621201235614PM

wow...thank you very much Josh! I have been looking for something like this.

I've been using them for almost a year, and I like them.

I also use them for their statistics, which work better than google analytics on Ning sites.

in what way?

Google Analytics does not track clicks on a page unless the click takes you to another page. Cloudflare does.

I've installed Cloudflare and it hasn't reduced the number of spammers who want to join my Ning. I thought it would stop them when they try to join and block them so I wouldn't even see them on my list of members to approve. Do I need to change specific settings on my Ning?

Thanks!

I've been having success with CloudFlare until the past few days. It's seems that they re getting in through the mobile version of my site, and I had to turn on the approval process. I never had this problem, but now it seems like spammers are somehow finding a way to exploit the mobile version of my Ning. It might be the same with you, Heidi.

If the spammers in question don't have a profile pic despite your networks settings requiring profile pics, then it means (according to Ning) they're accessing your network via mobile.
