Updated: This feature was released Thursday (8/4/11) morning Pacific time.
On the heels of our launch of the improved Activity Feed, we're pleased to report that you and your members will soon be able to post content directly to the Activity Feed, in the same way you can already post a Status.
Here's how this will look in a wide column:
And here's how it will look in a skinny column, when you click the "+" button:
Now adding content is incredibly easy — you're just one click away from sharing photos, videos, blog posts, and other content with your friends.
Look for the release to come early next week. A few important details:

Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on August 8, 2011 at 2:20pm Hey, Curtis. Thanks for posting. I've been checking into this, but it seems that your Videos and Events are both removed from your active Features Layout area. I'm also looking at your Main Page, and I don't see Events as you have shown it in your screenshot. You may have been trying out a few things and moving them around. Are you still seeing discrepancies in how it works with what you have enabled? Would you be able to shoot us a ticket if that's the case? I'd like to have someone check it out.
Thanks Eric,
I removed the "Events" after posting here but they were set to display "0" events and configured so only I could add events. I had to remove the events all together to get rid of the problem.
I do have videos on the site as you can see under the tab "Oilfield Videos" Users can upload videos-but I have the moderation turned on I believe so i have to approve them-still no video showing in the latest activity app...
Let me know if you need me to add the "events" back for testing and I will-Thanks
Thanks Eric,
I see the problem with "Videos" now...apparently the "Videos" module has to be installed on the main page for the "videos" to be displayed in the activity feed area... I actually just created a link and tab to the "video page" (while hiding the ning nav bar) and had all that bypassed...hope that makes sense-thanks
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on August 8, 2011 at 8:25pm One quick question: Did you previously hide the Quick Add box with custom code? If so, that could be a reason. Just something to check on.
Thanks Eric, It seems I did you some CSS trick to remove the quick add a few years ago-thanks!
Permalink Reply by Janettee McCrary on August 9, 2011 at 3:47pm I don't think that's the problem-I still have the code for the Quick Add box in mine, and this feature is working as expected (although I really would like to change the way it works, but that's a separate issue).
Permalink Reply by Brian Floe on August 8, 2011 at 6:06pm I sent in a ticket a few days ago, but I have heard nothing. It's still not showing up on one of my networks.
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on August 9, 2011 at 1:28pm You may want to check on the advice to Curtis. If you've hidden the Quick Add box in the past using CSS, this could be the same issue.
I never used CSS to hide the Quick Add box and I still don't have it on my network since the new quick add buttons were added to the status update. Is there a way to have both the quick add box and the quick add buttons?
Permalink Reply by Neil Norton on August 9, 2011 at 5:42am Love it! Keep up the great work.
I am only able to see this feature when I first login on the dashboard. However, if I click on Leaderboards or Home, I don't see this option on the activity feed. Am using Firefox.
Also why not allow editing the blogs, photos etc at this level for the author? Saves so much hassle.
Permalink Reply by Michael G. Castle on August 10, 2011 at 7:49am I like it! I have asked for help on this as I could not figure out what happened to our Quick Add Feature. This is very nice. Mike
