Updated: This feature was released Thursday (8/4/11) morning Pacific time.
On the heels of our launch of the improved Activity Feed, we're pleased to report that you and your members will soon be able to post content directly to the Activity Feed, in the same way you can already post a Status.
Here's how this will look in a wide column:
And here's how it will look in a skinny column, when you click the "+" button:
Now adding content is incredibly easy — you're just one click away from sharing photos, videos, blog posts, and other content with your friends.
Look for the release to come early next week. A few important details:

How come you get "Latest Activity" whereas mine says "Top Content" in my homepage? How do you get this?

Permalink Reply by AnGella on August 11, 2011 at 5:06am We wish that Status Updates and Activity were still separately located modules. Our members' Status updates get buried in the main activity feed and on their personal pages by other activity. Members want people to be able to like and comment on Status Updates, but once they are buried in the activity feed we can no longer do that or even check for comments.
If there is a trick other then constantly deleting our other activity please let us know!
Thanks.
Permalink Reply by Donna Mac on August 11, 2011 at 5:13am I so agree. My members don't think much of this activity feed because no one can ever see what they say. at least on FB you can see further down and there are notifications when someone comments on what they say in the status. Oh well...I'm losing so many people to FB it's ridiculous. I guess I just don't have what it takes to make my site popular. :(
Permalink Reply by AnGella on August 11, 2011 at 7:30am I completely agree about the notifications! Everything seems half done.
It also just occurred to me that we have separate activity modules for blogs, forums, videos etc on our personal pages as well as the main page but not one for just status updates. Lumping all the same recent posts into the activity feed seems redundant. Maybe it's just me.
Permalink Reply by AnGella on August 11, 2011 at 7:35am I just went to see how to change what activity gets displayed, but there is no way of turning off just photos for example to avoid the photos taking up the feed or turning off the forum activity because I am using the forum module.
Permalink Reply by Donna Mac on August 11, 2011 at 7:37am I tried the same thing...a member had posted 40 photos of an event and that is all that showed up in latest activity because only 20 are allowed. Members do not understand this...
Permalink Reply by AnGella on August 11, 2011 at 7:45am I have our Activity module set to display 20 and I only see 7 items, there are no photos. Are there other reasons the feed does not display all 20 items?
Permalink Reply by Donna Mac on August 12, 2011 at 5:14pm maybe if you don't have everything checked off? I was told my NING that the photos take up the space of the activity. Not sure what else does.
