Updated: This feature was released Thursday (8/4/11) morning Pacific time.

On the heels of our launch of the improved Activity Feed, we're pleased to report that you and your members will soon be able to post content directly to the Activity Feed, in the same way you can already post a Status.

Here's how this will look in a wide column:

And here's how it will look in a skinny column, when you click the "+" button:

Now adding content is incredibly easy — you're just one click away from sharing photos, videos, blog posts, and other content with your friends.

Look for the release to come early next week. A few important details:

  • This ability to quickly post content directly to the Activity Feed replaces and enhances the previous, less-prominent Quick Add feature.
  • If you disable the ability for your members to publish Status updates in the Activity Feed, your members won’t see these Quick Add options.

Hmmm...your images are broken in Chrome and aren't showing at all in Firefox 5.  (for ME at least)

should be fixed, thanks!

It looks AWESOME! x

Great job!!

can we get the little icons on the wide column too

Hi Kris, we tried that out and it didn't quite work as a one-size-fits-all improvement — looked great on some themes, busy on others. Let me try and dig up some of the assets so you and other NCs can tweak this if you'd like to.

looks great

good!

Like the look of this for directly posting to the Actitvity feed, but im afraid to bring up the conversation I was having yesterday about the dreaded topic of the amount of posts allowed on the feed, sorry about this but it seems to have been overlooked. If members can now add even more directly to the feed isn't this going to swallow up the 20 posts allowed even more quickly ? I know these show on the feed when members add items to these features elswhere but adding it straight to the feed will encourage more activity which is great but the feed will go so fast that it could be more of a negative than a positive. Sorry once again to bring what seems a touchy subject up again but it is something that needs attention im afraid.

Hey, John. As we've noted many, many times before, this isn't something we can change right away.

Hey, Eric. Thanks for the reply and yes I understand it is something that cannot be changed straight away and I didn't really want to bring it up again, but this addition is great and I had to state my opinion from what I could see. I won't post anymore about the subject but I do hope its just not forgotten, else that would be a real shame.

On a diffarent subject, I have posted about Norton verifying our links in google but have no replys so not sure if you could help out on this one. They provide the verifying code but where would you add this? here's what they say :To verify your site ownership, you can either add a meta tag to your home page, or upload an HTML verification file to your site. Please select the verification method you would like to use.The "meta tag" is to be pasted into Web site's home page. It should go in the <head> section

Thanks for the understanding of the first subject and be great if you could point me in the right direction for the other.
