Just finished reading  some very wise insight from Kris concerning competing with Facebook.

"We don't have any issues with our members not coming back to our network, they keep coming back because they are looking to connect with like minded people with the same passion and interest. We provide them with content they not going to find on Facebook; well not in one convenient place any how."

Well stated Kris, this writer couldn't agree more.  First of all, OUR place does NOT attempt to compete with Facebook, because we CAN'T.  They are too big.  And... Facebook CAN'T compete with us.  We are unique. It's that simple, folks.

We are a professional network, not a social network.  Chat is available, but rarely used.  Our members aren't here for social chat-chat.  They are here to connect and exchange ideas that are pertinent to our profession.  If they want to "hobnob" or chew the fat, they can go and Facebook. Our scope, purpose and platform very different.  They do their thing, and we do ours.

Our content is unique and for "like minded people with the same passion and interest."  The Ning platform offers all of us the POWER to design our network to work for us.  Facebook offers absolutely nothing concerning content or design.  Nothing. It is one continuous conversation; anyone can jump in anywhere about anything. We have DISSCUSSION BOARDS where threads are followed.  Members can go back in a later time for reference and recollection.

We have not and will not integrate with Facebook or any other major social networking outfit. We do allow sign up/in with them, only because we are expected to.   Nothing more.  Go chirp elsewhere, my little birdies'.

My advice to others would be stop competing with the competition; you'll lose every time.  Otherwise go join 'em.  Personally, I find their attraction addictive and overblown. I don't worry my pretty little head over them either.

Thanks for listening.

I totally agree, Dr. Trocar. But who is Kris?

used correct facebook can be a very valuable asset to your network

Our fb fan page drives hundreds of thousands of visitors to our network per month.

That´s right. But I´m not talking about sharing the network, but competing with generic sites.

Like =).

I don't use the FB sign in at all.  You don't get their info and if the FB module goes down or you choose to remove it...all those members are lost.

One in every five page views in the U.S. occurred on Facebook

If used correctly facebook is a good way of free exposure for your network.

i dont put facebook, twitter or any other thing sharing, i dont allow them to sign with anything else than my site, i keep it exclusive- think it looks better
