I have searched here for hours for how to put a contest on my network so that people can vote on different categories. I want to keep this as a permanent feature as we will have contest as the seasons change, like spring, Halloween, fall, Christmas etc.
In the past years it was put on a separate site for viewing, then people would vote via email. This is way to complicated and we have members that won't participate.
Has anyone been successful in running contest with voting on site and if so, how did you do that?
Any and all help is needed.

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on June 1, 2012 at 6:40pm I've run a contest once using the Events feature. The difference is, mine did not require anyone to vote on anything. Mine was for the member who brought in the most sign-ups.
You might want to try using Polldaddy, it seems to be very popular with Ning network creators.

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on June 2, 2012 at 7:37am Sure Josh. It was only one, actually, though I plan on more when I've finished rebuilding my network.
Like I said, my contest was for the members who brought in the most sign-ups. First prize was a hundred dollars, second prize was a cd/t-shirt/sticker package from one of my bands, third prize was a cd by another band. I added "who invited you to this site" to sign up questions, so I could determine the winners. Unfortunately, my administrator died, so I had to cut it short, since there was no way I could keep track of everything myself.
Permalink Reply by Judi Shugart on June 2, 2012 at 8:37am We do miniature villages and have contest that people can either send in 5 photos or one video. Some had suggested that we put it on Facebook, but I really want to keep it for our members only. I am looking into Polldaddy to see how that works. Patrick when you first tried this did you do it on your test network to try it out or straight to you working network?
I need about 5 categories and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Is this doable on Ning?
Thanks

Permalink Reply by Judi Shugart on June 4, 2012 at 4:10pm Thank you so much for the reply John.
So far you have done what I am looking for and will use this way for my next contest. I would like to be able for members to post on the network and just vote, as creators it is a lot of work for us, but your way is better than what we have done in the past.
