I'm brand new to Ning and while I've put together a workable web site I should say that anything that requires coding is out of my league.

I want to put several selected photos at the top of some of the web pages as a slide show. Ideally I'd like to have a separate slide show for each of 3 pages (ie different images for each). I followed some tips which required me to load the images to an Album - but I didn't necessarily want those images visible to other members - can a gallery be hidden?

Next problems was how do I select just some of the images to be in the slide show and not all images?

Finally, how do I make the slide show loop. What I managed to make comes up with a pretty crappy "Replay" screen after the last image.

So to summarise:

Can an photo album be hidden?

How can you select specific images for a slide show?

Can you have a different slide show for several pages?

How can you make a slide show loop continuously?

I suspect some of this Ning just can't do, but if it can hopefully someone out there can point me in the right direction.

Hi Robert,

First of all, welcome to Ning Creators.

Well, you can add a slider or slide show like this for each of many pages. Here are the steps you can follow and get it done.

If your are more interested in discussing regarding this kind of implementation, you can contact me @ bernardmax2@rediffmail.com

Ohhh sorry I forgot to show the link. Here it is http://design.ning.com/profiles/blogs/adding-a-slider

I looked at the link above and yes that's what I want, however the code at the design.ning.com link seems to refer to google and flickr (probably as examples of how to get images on those sites to display on the slider) whereas I'm only looking for it to source images from my ning site. In any event the slider doesn't work on my site in standard form anyway. The sample code has 3 slides - if you (or anyone else looking at this) could modify that code to just refer to 3 images on a ning site I'm probably capable of changing that to refer to my image locations.

Hi Robert,
You could simply use the photo module and set it to slideshow mode displaying featured images.
or you could use this slider http://design.ning.com/profiles/blogs/adding-a-slider which is also the one Bernard has kindly linked to. It requires some small html knowledge but out of the box as per the instructions given on the link is pretty cool.
Good luck

SP thanks for the link . Actually I forgot it. LOL

Bernard & Sweet Potato

I copied the code as suggested and while I get an image of what looks like a building and some sample text over the top it doesn't rotate images and the navigation buttons on the page don't do anything.

I got rid of the sample headings by removing that code and managed to get one of my images to display in the main screen, but it won't move onto slide 2.

I appreciate your time, but i think this is all too hard unless you've got some more suggestions.

Hi Robert, If you're not up for creating a slider just yet, you can play around with the Photos feature to achieve most of what you've outlined above.

Albums will be visible to everyone, but you can set privacy levels for individual photos. To adjust the settings on an individual photo, select "Edit" in the Options drop-down menu, check the box next to your preferred privacy setting (visible only to you, to you and your friends, or to anyone), then click "Save." Private photos can't be featured, added to an album, or shared.

You can turn any album into a slideshow by copying the embed code and pasting it into another area of your network where HTML is accepted. By default, the slideshow will not loop, but it might be possible to add a snippet of code to make that looping happen, something like <param name="loop" value="true" /> should do the trick.

To utilize the looping slideshow feature on the Photos module on your Main Page, try featuring the images you want to appear. You can always unfeature an image and feature new ones to keep it fresh.

Thanks - I'll try this.

I thought a slider is where the display pans across the image (which isn't what I want) - but as I said I'll try these later today and see how I go.

Robert

Allison - Strike One I'm afraid.

I liked your solution because it was simple -however there is no way I can get your loop code (or anythign similar). I did find another post on Creators saying that you used to be able to add loop=&1 after the autoplay code but that it no longer works. I can't help but think there must be some code that will work however the author of the other post asked for suggestions 2 months ago and got none.

After a few edits to the code, I haven't been able to nail down the continuous loop either. Will look into this further and update you here once I find a solution.

Perhaps it can't be done. I asked Ning support after the suggestions I got didn't work for me, but all I've heard is deathly silence.

If you find a solution or decide it's all too hard - let me know

Thanks
