I don't like how the discussions for my Forums are displayed from the earliest to the most recent. So my members then have to click on box number 3,4,or 5 to read the latest discussions. Can I switch that around where the most recent discussions show up on page number 1, before the older discussions. Similar to facebook. If someone posts something new, it shows up first.

Permalink Reply by Writer Chick {Diane} on August 27, 2011 at 1:24pm No, we create groups for GENRES of fiction. I have 10 main fiction groups and all stories must be posted in one of those groups. The individual stories are the discussions within the group. Your suggestion wouldn't work for us because we have over 500 full length stories on my site.

I had a friend in the UK who had a writers group on the old MSN and her members contributed individual chapters and/or scenes to a continuing storyline or screenplay. The finished product was always phenomenal....especially when considerating that her contributing writers were scattered all over the globe.
Thanks for responding.
Permalink Reply by the_real_macfly on August 27, 2011 at 3:37pm No worries, Diane. Just seen your last discussion.
It looks as if everything that follows a linear 'book'-style discussion is better of with an 'old post first'-style of discussion. (Unless, of course, all those old posts are just inane ramblings, not worth looking at.)
What I would like for every forum thread is a big fat button reading Jump to the last chapter or something similar. (Or, more generally, Jump to the last contribution,) That should soothe those who prefer a flat forum view, while also giving those with an intimate knowledge of the current discussion a chance to jump directly to the latest contribution.
Again, this is an issue for high-volume discussions, not for low-volume ones. An option would indeed be nice.
Permalink Reply by Gabi Juns on September 1, 2011 at 6:17am There's no point in discussing here if it's better if we see the oldest or newest posts first.
I run a course in my Ning community... people access the comments everyday, so in my course (specifically) newest first would be better.
I just want to have the choice! I have the choice in all other parts of the Ning. Why not having in the groups discussions? To me, it's such a simple issue to solve. We shouldn't even be discussing it here.

Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on September 3, 2011 at 11:56pm Hello again, Michael.
The reason I answered the way I did with my first response was to to get clarification so I could be sure I was understanding that this was a feature request and not a bug report. That's why I asked him at the end of my response if I was misunderstanding him to feel free to clarify.
To answer your question (again): It's not currently possible. We've had requests, and although it seems incredibly simple to change this detail, it's not quite as simple for threaded comments. That said, we may adjust this for unthreaded comments.
You said, (perhaps rhetorically?):
Is it better just for everyone to lodge a tech request???
I included that suggestion because I just wanted you to let you know, that, yes, it is better if you're having trouble with something specific to submit a ticket rather than submit a complaint on Creators. If you meant that rhetorically, I can probably safely assume that you aren't having an actual support issue but are instead submitting a feature request in your own way. I'll be sure to pass that request along.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Permalink Reply by Ted @ CareGiving Live! on January 11, 2012 at 5:54am Ok, I've read through this entire "Discussion" and then scrolled back up to the top the reply to the original post:
I have to agree with the request to add the same TOGGLE option as in the main page 'latest top or bottom' order. My discussions are used as that, discussions, and so the conversation isn't started from the beginning each time someone continues it with their reply (or Comment). I LIKE the threaded option since it is basically a group discussion and sometimes a one-on one side comment is made, but most importantly, the hassle of scrolling up and down the page to read, and then make your comment and then down again to read further and up again to respond is turning folks off of the conversation. the Conversation would flow MUCH more smoothly to be able to respond immediately to the latest comment without have to scrolll around each time, so having the "reply to this" box adjacent to the latest comment would be heaven.
The suggestion WAS made by Ning to move the "Reply to this" box (the main reply box, NOT the threaded reply buttons) to the end of the discussion, and that would be fine except I still can't fgure out how.
Does anyone have any clues how to do this for me?
I will now scroll back down to the end of the discussion now and await a response, and if I have any questions I will scroll back up to post them and then scroll back down to.....
Permalink Reply by Dan O'Donnell on April 21, 2013 at 10:51pm I'm also really hoping Ning gives us this option to reverse the order the replies are displayed in. They have been quite unresponsive to other issues that have been raised, like getting rid of the pointless 140 character limit on status updates just because it fits on twitter. It's so limiting, and just one reason Twitter is getting its ass kicked by Facebook. At least the 140 limit on ning should only be in effect IF you check the box to share on twitter. I've seen so many people ask for that change and a Ning rep told me that he didn't expect them to address it soon. As much as I love Ning and all it's great functionality and reliability, I really think Ning needs to do a better job of listening to feedback and acting on it.
