Does your site have rules?

Does your Ning site have rules?

I had to suspend a member for the first time a few days ago. She would break the same rule non-stop. She wouldn't stop harassing another member that happened to be my sister, i gave the girl a warning and she continued, so the day after i banned her i noticed i had a new member and the name sounded a lot like something she would use, so i thought has she returned just with a different email? Now, i don't what i should do about this new member.

  • Yes. We call them guidelines. We also have a Spam Policy. It's hard to keep people out if they were to create fake accounts, but you can set a bar for behavior and your other members will help you manage offenders (by telling you when they break rules).

You can find our 'rules' under About 20SB on my network, if you want to use them to set up your own.
  • thanks
  • Our policy is that you get a three-day warning, and if you don't delete all negative content and agree not to do it again, your account gets suspended. If we see another account by the same person, we suspend that too.
    • How would somebody who just runs a group know if it's the same person though? Can't just suspend somebody without actually being able to prove it's them. Or are we able to see IP addresses?
    • This doesn't seem sustainable. With thousands of members you'll need something that scales.
  • Feel free to read our agreement. It covers pretty much everything and it helps when you need to warn someone. http://hhoinfo.ning.com/page/page/show?id=2068750%3APage%3A27929

  • i talked with 1 of my administrators, she thinks there is a possibility it is the same person. Also, if the suspended member tried access the web page it would deny her access of use to open my website.

I have also vandals occurring on the rules page after i the member was suspended, she was an administrator and so is her very good friend. I fear that her friend is doing this to the rules page.
  • Check some Guidelines listed here: http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/share-your-guidelines

I definitely recommend adding guidelines to your network to give members an idea of what is appropriate to post!

  • That is what I mean, Legion, i cannot really know who it is. But a friend of mine, and administrator i thought was deleting the rules told me it was an old friend of hers on Facebook, bu she couldn't answer questions about certain things she should have known.

And i can't suspend this member without knowing their true identity, to make it worst my sister and i were hanging out one day and i wanted to show her the evidence i had, i went on the member's page and i noticed a comment from myself on her page. It said something like "I know who you really are! I know your not some random person, your really (suspended member's name)!" It turns out my sister commented that to her!!!! I am soooo confused right now!
