Emails from group owners should go to site members inbox NOT private email addresses

I am sorry if there is a post similar but I cannot find one.

I don't think its a good thing that group owners emails get delivered into our personal email addresses and particularly sent as if the sender is the name of the network.

For example... a group owner on my network sent email to all her group members including myself and I recieved it in my private email but NOT in my inbox on the network. The email was sent by my own network name... as if I was responsible for sending it out.

Surely this will lead to people pushing the spam button or worse still not bothering to join any groups so they don't get emails from them.

Isn't it better that group owners emails go into the members inbox... and ok maybe a message from the network saying "youv'e got mail"? The member can then collect the email next time they visit the network again.

Hi Karen, I'm not really understanding what the issue is. I'm not sure if you're referring to an actual "group" or the "network", seeing as how some NCs refer to Ning networks as groups. (smile)

"For example... a group owner on my network sent email to all her group members including myself and I recieved it in my private email but NOT in my inbox on the network. The email was sent by my own network name... as if I was responsible for sending it out."

If it was a broadcasts message sent out on the network's behalf, that generally means you have an Administrator speaking for the network, not necessarily you in particular and your members already have the option of turning off email notifications from your site if they don't like getting them (it's listed under settings). Besides, I don't think broadcasts messages goes to your message box on the site, so in that case you are correct.

As far as actual "groups" within your network (group administrators) send messages to the entire group if they post something that may be of interest to the members within that particular group. If that's the case, you can confer with that group's admin and ask them to turn off the ability to send messages to the group.

I may be speaking our of turn, cause like I previously stated, I'm not sure why this is an issue. I'm not dense, just confused. ;-)

Cheers!
