I wanted to hand of events management to another member, so I thought I'd create an admin role for this purpose.  I cleverly called it "Events Coordinator", and checked the box next to the Events feature in the role editor.  My new Events Coordinator tells me they can't edit events. Strictly speaking she can, but she can't change the description and date.  Digging deeper, I found this note about roles for events:

Events: Feature or delete events. Delete comments. Send message to guests.

This seems like a defect.  What good is an events admin to me if I still have to change descriptions, times, location, etc.  Seems the events 'admin' can change the description and event type.  Why this bizarre selection of attributes?  I can't believe it is supposed to work this way.

Is it supposed to work this way?

HA! a year later and I just stumbled onto this problem again.  After posting a trouble ticket which I fully expect will be ignored, I thought to search the creators forum, and found my own post from a year ago.  Ning can be so entertaining!  Now if only I had a rational solution to my problem..... hmmmm .... to dream a dream...

Yes - I have the same issue. I'm organizing a conference with multiple event pages, most or all of which I would like to hand over to others to administer. But by administer, I mean have the ability to edit all aspects of the event -- at the very least, things like

  • description
  • start/end times
  • be able to export RSVP lists

It looks like this is currently not possible, which is unfortunate and means that the custom roles are of limited or no use for a case like this.

after more searching, ran across this earlier explanation of how to enable editing of member content... I went ahead and made that change (Allow moderators to edit member content they are moderating) in the Content Controls, which now enables those I've given content admin rights on certain events to edit nearly everything about the events (except privacy and RSVP settings). Unfortunately the change is site-wide, and may end up applying giving other types of 'moderators' privileges that I wouldn't normally want to give them. Hasn't come up yet, but it seems unfortunate that I wasn't able to just enable those full admin privileges at the level of roles and content admin settings.
