New Developer Alert: February 2013 Breaking Changes

If a New Developer Alert arrived in your inbox, you'll want to update your Sign-up and Sign-in App on Facebook. Don't worry--It's easy!

You got the note because Facebook is doing away with Authenticated Referrals and removing the ability to post to a friends wall via the Graph API. You can see all of Facebook's "breaking changes" here.

Facebook says that these changes will be "permanently enabled for all apps in 1 day on Tuesday, February 5, 2013," which leads me to believe that you could get away without taking any action, but there's no need to take a chance. It is easy to update your app:

  1. Log in to your Facebook Developers page
  2. Select your app
  3. Click "Edit Migrations"
  4. Scroll down to the Migrations section
  5. Select the radio button next to "February 6th Breaking Changes"
  6. Click "Save"

The "enabled" app performed well on February 3rd. If you run into any issues with the update on February 6th, let us know.

Steps 1 & 2

Step 3

Steps 4-6

 Done!

Resolved, thank you for this heads up! Great to stay ahead of the game! :)

Thanks Allison =) Youré doing a wonderful work.

Peace*

+1 for NING being on top of things! :)

Allison, when I go to the link to change my settings this is what I see:

Does this mean I have nothing to worry about and the members can still sign in, sign up and share their posts to Facebook? I never physically created any apps for my network, sooooo . . . .

If the Facebook social sign-in feature is activated on your network, it must have been created using a different Facebook account. You can point the admin who created it to this post. If you're not using Facebook social sign-in, you won't be impacted by this update.

Allison, I no longer have the account I used to establish my Facebook social sign in feature. YIKES!!

Now what do I do?

You can create a new Facebook Sign Up/Sign In app, then replace the App Key and Secret on your network with the new codes.

Facebook may auto-update everyone come Wednesday morning, but it's probably a good idea to establish a new connection with your new Facebook account. Surprised that old one is still working for you!

It won't let me create a new one. It's still somehow operating somehow on the old one. Go figure. Anyhoo, here's the screenshot I get.

But when I go to "edit or delete app" it gives me this page: https://developers.facebook.com/apps/143761785648094/summary

If you submit a ticket, our technical experts can remove the app for you.

Thanks Allison, but I think I fixed it. If not, I will submit a ticket. Thank you very much for your help.
