If I wanted to make a site that looked and acted very like FB , is this possible on the Ning platform ?

no, not really. For example, when any given person looks at the main page of a network on the Ning platform, even with the activity feed turned on, everyone is seeing the same thing at the same time, not like Facebook, where the visitor sees a unique view of just what their friends' activity is. Also, the fact there are no on-site notifications of likes, comments on posts, pics, videos, etc. makes it not possible.

Im not after an exact copy as i know that would be hard but would like the basic functionality and look , I want to move the membership of a FB group onto its own dedicated site, and I know the members will only move if things seem familiar.

Well on this occasion it looks like Grou.ps have won the day as they have a FB like template ready to use, but i was really hoping to do it on ning as thats what I like best as this is where I have my other main site :(

wow groups has 75 templates and we have like 12 .... maybe I should try them out

Okay I cant say this loudly enough, RUN FROM GROU.PS. I tested them out as recent as November and I almost lost my entire network!!!!! They have horrible and rude support and there are so many bugs in their "Facebook Clone" interface that you will need a disinfection! Really.... RUN!

Grou.ps are ok, but all the networks are connected. If you join two grou.ps sites you'll end up with inbox messages from one network appearing in the other. I do love their wiki feature, which is real nice. Wish ning had it.

If you look up socialcast, you can somewhat intergrate a real-time status feed into your ning site, but you'd also need to invite all your members via email to the socialcast site, sense it's invite only. Socialcast also comes with a very nice set of mobile apps and a desktop app that has live notifications. Closest i've seen to facebook, with a little of twitter combined. Featuring mentioning and following.

Yes, it is possible - I know this because there are so many replicated softwares that really mimic facebook. But I agree with Josh - why would you want to? What I like is that there are many of the same common elements that all social networks have that people have come to trust. But ning has built its own solid recognizable brand that people can spot that too and trust that. I checked out groups - 75 templates, great. 15 apps? Really - that's nothing considering none of us would like all the apps that are there or use them. Stick with ning. That's why I upgraded yesterday - I maxed out apps added within just a few minutes of first seeing the page and knew I needed more than just a few

Hi Shanni!! I upgraded To Pro 2 days ago too! are the Apps  safe do You Know ? and has any body Checked out the cafe Xpress!!??

and also forgive my Ignorance!! but If this site or ning networks cant replicate FB..Then Why ?? I have heard of the inline notifications etc..but surely anything Zuckerberg and his Cronies can knock together ..some of the developers on the Ning networks can replicate!!

yep - and any of us could do it, because it is only code. But that takes hours upon days to do, and ning just makes it easy. I wasted so much time and money trying to do it - got sick of it. So decided to press the easy button.... LOL!
