Facebook Connect on networks on Ning

I know Laura mentioned about a month ago Facebook Connect is something that Ning is looking into.

I wanted to throw my two cents into this, since I feel there'd be a lot of benefit to having Facebook Connect functionality available in our networks. For instance, we run a 3000+ member fan page on Facebook and being able to integrate their experience through FB Connect would go a long way towards helping build bridges between the two spaces.

Also, I saw a short video from the guys at NingMods showing how FB Connect could be implemented as part of a network on Ning:

Is this something they were able to do b/c of a particular way in which NingMods is set up that is unique to it?

First off, I would love to allow them to sign in/authenticate using Facebook Connect.

Second, it'd be awesome if they could update their FB status from their TD status (if they want) and viceversa (though I understand this would mean a FB application would need to be developed for that).

I agree with this, sign in/authenticate would be ideal. After that is done, updating the status at fb from activity would be great.

Other very useful things could be:

Importing the pictures from facebook to photos at Ning Network
Merging fb status with Ning status
Importing frineds from fb to Ning

Hi Evan,

most people are on FB now. And more and more users are unwilling to fill out forms as needed to join a Ning network. So, just to establish a connection (sign in) would be cool.

The other stuff mentioned below, would be grat, too. Status activities to be shown on FB or via Twitter etc.

It may have been posted already but I want to be able to post everything directly to a Facebook page. I want the photos, videos, blogs and forum (discussions) to go directly to a facebook page. The admin should have the option to trigger this by default!

I totaly agree too! Here in Spain is becoming more and more popular for companies having an online presence to use facebook connect to maximize the potential exposure. It would be very cool indeed if we could have the same power.

I really wish I had access to my code again so I could implement this again. I went back to the main code framework when ning updated itself and removed my access to the files and my FB connect disappeared. It brings a lot of value to a site. I'm just not sure why with such a demand of a popular feature why this isn't here already as it is more valuable than having a chat client in my opinion. Does Ning developers need help on how you can implement this?

Hi guys,

It looks like we're waiting to fully investigate this until Facebook provides authentication which provides the emails necessary to create accounts here. This is something they're talking about however!

If that is the case, why not just affiliate with gigya instead since they already have Openid available for most big name sites out there?
