Having trouble with facebook integration
I followed NING's instructions setting up the application on facebook, etc. and entered all the API keys, auth ID, etc. Now when I go to my facebook page and click on "Go to application" a web page opens up with this URL: https:/mhcc.networkauth.com/
and I get the following:
MHCC uses Janrain Engage for sign-in Janrain provides 3rd party sign-in and registration as a service to websites like MHCC
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? What is "Janrain Engage" ??? Ning makes no mention of this..
Has my site been hacked?
Why doesn't my NING network home page load instead??

Since the Facebook Integration (which I do not choose to participate in) I am getting junk mail from Facebook in my e-mail address that I use for my Ning site. I want this to stop. How do I unsubscribe myself from being connected to Facebook?

Sounds like you just need to change your Facebook email preferences. Either click on the link at the bottom of the emails from Facebook, or sign in to Facebook and click "Account Settings" in the top-right.

That is unlikely, Evan. I don't have a FB account under this email addy or name.

Is the email from Ning, or is it from Facebook? And did you create a Facebook app for your Ning Network? If you, you must have had a Facebook account to do so.
I'm not totally sure what to tell you — as I'm not sure who's sending these emails you're referring to, or what's in them. However, if the problem continues, drop us a note in the Help Center or start a new discussions, as I'd like to keep this discussion focused on the question that was asked, about Janrain.

The e-mail is from Facebook. No, I did not create a Facebook app for my Ning Network. I have been consistently disabling the two-way interactions between my Ning network and the other social networks to keep any potential leaks plugged. My Ning network is tied to one webmail provider -- my Facebook account is under a different name and a totally different webmail provider. That's why I don't understand how FB pings are finding me.
I deleted the mail I've gotten already (sorry - I didn't know Ning had a new FB alliance or I would definitely have saved them) but the next time I get one I'll save it.
IMHO this is a symptom of AI and that would be nobody's fault at Ning. I have a new cell phone that has an app that makes it possible (if you activate it) to pinpoint the exact location of any friend of mine who also has a cell phone that has GPS. The app doesn't say anything about asking my remote friend's permission to track them ... scarey, isn't it?

Sounds like you're not having trouble with set-up. It seems like you successfully set up the app that allows your members to sign up and sign in with Facebook. Sounds like you're instead pointing out that when you click on the "Go to this Application" link from Facebook's end, you're taken to [networkurl].networkauth.com. That's supposed to happen, as that's the URL that your Ning Network uses to sign members in with Facebook, Google or Yahoo.
Janrain is the company that we used to make this new feature possible. They're mentioned on the page that you visited to enable Facebook:
You shouldn't see a reference to Janrain when going to the networkauth.com site, though. We're working with Janrain to try to get that URL to redirect to your Ning Network. We'll keep pushing on that.

Thanks Evan, I missed that "Powered by Janrain" link when setting up/testing the application.
Yes, I set it up successfully, but it doesn't seem to work from my NING page. When I click the facebook link, it calls up the Janrain website. See attached photo.

Hard to say, as I've never seen this issue before on any other network :)
Could you drop us a note in the Help Center through the "Support" link in your dashboard and let me know your ticket number, so I can take a look?

Permalink Reply by appaloosa on November 16, 2010 at 7:43pm Ok.. I've been tinkering with the Facebook Integration settings, and while I no longer get the "janrain" page when I click on the Facebook link, the post is going directly to my profile - instead of the application page. *sigh*
I'm trying to fix it, but something else occured when I go to my dashboard/Tools/Facebook Integration...
Why does NING ask me to (step 2: Create App) "Create Facebook App>>" when I already have it set up??
What am I doing wrong??

Thanks.
