by simply moving a few things around i neaerly doubled my sites speed (or more accurately cut the load time in 1/2)
at the same time condenced things a bit
what i did was 1st i had all 3 ad boxes active the ads above header was my leaderboard ad and my quicklinks navigation table (the wiggling flashing table u see on www.dreadlockssite.com/main/
the ads below the header had the social share widget and google search
the footer ads i had a bunch of links to my business site www.domains-names-registration.com
next i had 2 textboxes in the left collumn and 1 in the right (welcome center)
the left collumn had 1 text box for ads and other info then the activity feed and another text box with links and other info
below that was the music player (but with the playlist not displayed just turning off playlist display saved a second or 2)
ok so what i did was removed the links in the footer and shut that off (only content that i did remove)
i took the bottom textbox and using jensocials accordian slider code but modified added that textbox content to a hidden area with the button to reveal it (modified by using only 1 "block" and removing the line of javascript that sets the 1st blocks status to open
next i took the ad above and below the header content and merged them above the header
making a containing div and 2 side divs 1 floated left 1 floated right to have the social share widget and the quicklinks dropdown menu on the same line
even though all the content that was in the textboxes is still on the page removing the boxes themselves made the page load way faster
now this is both a tip and a question haha
a large perectage of my sites total load is javascripts a few are external ofcourse oike the translation script the social share widget ad codes etc but it seems like the ones that make up the bulk of the js is part of the ning core
so my question is if anyone whos a js genius could take a look and guess at what i can shut off thats non essential and might reduce the download load even more
already disabled avery and ustream
