Many, many, many Ning creators have created and maintain outstanding Ning sites. However, as we compete with other platforms for our members' attention, SPEED MATTERS.
If you have a fast Ning site or know of a fast Ning site or would like to work on making our Ning sites as fast as we can as Ning Creators, I'd love to hear from you...

Permalink Reply by Nor Cal Social Media on March 10, 2012 at 3:29pm I designed my site for speed www.norcal.ning.com My social market is Northern California, so I set it up so that no matter how robust the network gets, speed will not be an issue.
Your network can most likely be made faster by relocating your custom apps off the main page, or just linking to them, and letting the platform run without those activity workloads.
To make it even faster, you might even bed more of your content within the site. I think what you have looks great, and maybe that first impression of your community works better for your concept, audience, and members.
What I have FYI, is actually relevant to branding, although my focus is on the brand of the community, I offer my sponsors online social media consulting. What I have is a model of what I can do, and your site might apply the same reasoning in demonstrating by example.
Checking out other networks the other day, I ran into another site aimed at branding and marketing consulting. I think they had a very effective looking splashpage that gave me the impression they knew what they were talking about.
I imagine your best asset is those member profile pics who could be publicity shots demonstrating what professional branding looks like. I actually love your header, but I can definately imagine using one of your member pics with great effect, perhaps as a featured member campaign once a week or month.
Hope that helps!
Best,
Anthony
Great, great, great ideas, Anthony!
Let me share with you that I've been manually re-conceiving Brandergy.com - literally on paper.
My re-conceptualization actually entails some of the things you're demonstrating at norcal...
I intend to reconfigure the main menu and substantial parts of the general layout, as well...
Stay tuned!

FYI my IE9 browser keeps crashing in your profiles.
Anthony
hmmmm.... Help me understand, Anthony... what do mean when you say it keeps crashing in my profiles? (I typically use Chrome then, Firefox, then Opera when visiting Brandergy.com and I've experienced no crashes... have you had crash problems in other ning-based sites?)

Permalink Reply by Nor Cal Social Media on March 10, 2012 at 4:08pm I went to your profile link, and Internet Explorer (9) stopped working. I tried it multiple times and on different profiles. The main page and main members page worked fine though.
I haven't experienced this before.
I generally test IE first. Most hits I have tracked on my different sites over the last few years at least 90% IE7. -A
OK, thanks kindly, Anthony! I'll check out my profile in IE9 and see what's causing the hangups...
