Feedback wanted to my new NING-powered Greenhouse community (danish site)

Dear fellow NC's,

I have been working for several months now to make our community ready for launch to our customers, partners and visitors on our other web properties.

I plan to send out a newsletter to our mailingslists, announcing our new greenhouse/garden community at http://www.drivhusklubben.dk

We are a Danish greenhouse manufacturer (Juliana), and will be using the community as a way to interact with our customers as well as greenhouse and garden enthusiasts.

The greenhouse will be featuring articles and posts from several Danish expert garden authors and also let members share their own gardening experience to each other.

I am looking forward to hear about fellow NC's thoughts on the community.

Very nice... wish you all the best...

Hi Bernard :)

Thank you for your kind reply1

By the way. I sent the e-mail newsletter about 2 hours ago and already I'm up to around 60 members as writing this.

The mailinglist had around 3500 newsletter subscribers and only about 300 are opened untill now. So very high visitor to member conversions which is nice :)

Hi Niko,

e-mail newsletter is not a effective way of making members. Try to promote your site on FB. Get some ideas from NCs to promote your site etc. Good luck...

Hi Bernard,

I understand what you mean. The thing is that our company had a former "community" with active members. But we decided to "move" our community to a better domain AND to a better virally capable platform (NING)..

Unfortunately it wasnt possible for us to "export" members from our old platform to NING, therefore I announced the launch of the new site to our existing members via the newsletter.. so they could sign up on our new and improved community which will give them more interactive possibillities.

I understand that you perhaps thought that I was just mailing out to a general mailinglist. Thats not the case, and I would never do that at all :o)

FB is next step on my promotion to do list.. after our existing community members has a chance at signing up at the new site.

Of course all subscribers are double opt'ed and want to receive company/community news and articles from us :o)

But I gues I didnt make that clear in the beginning of my post here. My bad.

By the way.. as you can see there is already activity from members as they are already "active" from the previous site we had :)

Well, the same thing happened with me. I used to have a very active forum site. Later, I created a social networking site from ning for better look and better feature. That forum had 7000 members, however, I could not bring even 20% members from there. I used the same idea with no success. Later, I worked very hard to make my social network alive and kicking.

Godt lavet, Niko.Ønsker dig succes med din side!

Klaus

@Klaus:

Tak og ligeledes held og lykke med dine egne NING-projekter :) Jeg havde faktisk meget tidligt i mit forløb med NING lagt mærke til at der var en dansker på NC - men jeg ventede med at "sige hej" indtil sitet var klar til launch.

@ Bernard Lama:

It would be very nice if NING offered some sort of user import facillity for those of us who have to re-establish our members on our NINg site. But I gues we have to accomplish this the hard way. Good luck..!

Hey Niko,

You can import your member's list up to 5000 members via invite function if you have already exported your member's list from the old site.

Wow - actually that option I have overlooked! :O

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I was darn sure that I'd read several places that member import wasnt possible. But I guess it was all in my (perverted, twisted) head. :o)

Niko

Hi Pilorie Masson

Thanks for the advice. I agree 100%. I figure in the beginning I'd concentrate on creating some content before next years gardening season starts in Denmark around january, february already.
