I have had a developer make a Spelling and Grammar check tool that should work on all Ning sites or any site that uses the tinyMCE editor. The app and it's use cost you nothing BUT the app is ad supported, meaning it inserts a small google ad on your site (either  at the bottom of the text editor or the bottom of  pages that contain no text editor)

The Spell & Grammar check tool seems to work fine in IE8 & 9 as well as Firefox & Chrome.

Any member that makes a post on your site can check it before posting by clicking the "Check Spelling"  button at the bottom of the editor. When clicked all possilble spelling and grammar mistakes will be underlined (spelling mistakes in red/Grammar mistakes in green)

Then you can click on any underlined mistakes and get a drop down box of possible corrections-just click the correction and it's inserted into the post for you!

As network creator you can use this to correct ANY post or comment on your site that allows editing. It is really a great time saver to use to run through all your blogs/discussions and comments and quickly correct them which is supposed to help in Google Search Rankings.

I know because this is ad supported it will not be for everyone so I want to be honest about that up front-but still you are welcome to install it in your custom code box just long enough to correct your site then remove it. I hope everyone finds a use for it! It was expensive to have developed and took a great deal of time so i am hoping that the small goggle ad will help recoup the costs over time.

Here is a screenshot of the tool as it appears in the "Pop-Out" editor of Latest Activity on main pages.

The advertisement is the smallest Google Adsense offers-please keep in mind the app is configured to not work if the ad code is altered or removed and users will get an error message.

Anyway I hope some of you like the tool as much as I do-feel free to use it full time or install it just when you want to quickly correct areas of your site. I will leave the code attached as a .txt file above. Just copy and paste this code into your custom code box and click save-everything should work.

Currently i only have this available in English-but if its well accepted then i will pay to have it made in other languages.

Please send me any questions to derrickhand300@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Curtis

Here is the code to install in custom code box

<script src="http://drillingrigjob.com/SpellCurtisAds/js/curtis.spellchecker.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<div id="ads-curtis" style="margin-left: 10px; text-align: center;">
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4020801146046639";
/* 234x60, created 10/23/11 */
google_ad_slot = "2003234905";
google_ad_width = 234;
google_ad_height = 60;
//-->
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"

</script></div>

UPDATE

If you prefer a link unit instead of using 1 of your text/image ad slots you can use the code below

<script src="http://drillingrigjob.com/SpellCurtisAds/js/curtis.spellchecker.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<div id="ads-curtis" style="margin-left: 10px; text-align: center;">
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-4020801146046639";
/* Spell Check Link Unit */
google_ad_slot = "0431875124";
google_ad_width = 468;
google_ad_height = 15;
//-->
</script>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script></div>

Hi Kos,

I honestly do not know what could be causing the problem. I did add your code to the test site with the spell check code and the slider is sliding fine-but I see on stockbuz it is not.

I do not have the code you are using to make it diosplay in a text box-but its displaying and sliding at the bottom of the page fine for me with the spell check.

It looks like you have quite a few other scripts-you may try removing that falling snow script and see if it works then.

I really don't know much about the coding of this so all I can do is guess-but it seems to be sliding fine on the test site here (but at bottom of page)

Good morning Curtis; yeah it was so strange b/c everything worked fine for a few days and *then* the slider stopped.  I removed the snow first b/c I had heard it slowed down sites but that didnt' work.  Once I removed spellcheck and re-inserted the snow, the slider re-started immediately.  Oh well.  Maybe I'll try to look for a different slider altogether b/c I really don't want to lose the spellcheck capability.

Thank you for taking the time anyway and thank you again for sharing the code with us all to begin with.  That was very kind of you.  Have a great holiday season.

The "Spell Check" button is now configured to match the ning editor buttons better-also we have added a way where you can customize the  background and font color of the button for your site if the bacic does not work for you. If you need this let me know and i will do my best to post how it is done but basically involves adding the color codes you want to the end of the script.

Hi LuvNing.

I actually would like to do it but I don't have the skills to set it up. I thought this would make a great trial to see if that might be worthwhile but honestly with  maybe 2000 pageviews a day from the couple Ning sites that have added it-been 2-3 weeks now and i think its made less than $2 total...hehe..i don't mind though and enjoy that others are using it. Maybe if it catches on we can do an ad free version, I do have a link version that does not run off the page ( this happens a little in the pop out editor on the front page) I just have to get the ad slot installed.

I am glad you enjoy having it-I know I use it EVERY day now to quickly clean things up.

Thanks!

This spelling and grammar check tool is still available and working-I see from the stats that several are still using it-I was wondering if you could give me your feedback?

Thank you

Curtis I wanted to add this back but I'm running ads on my site now.  Would this violate the Adsense "3 ads per page" rule or will it not b/c it's your ad and not mine?  I miss having it, truly.

I think it would actually violate it-

Rats!  That's what I was afraid of.  I *would* recommend it though to anyone not running three ads.  Your members will love that spellcheck is there for them.
